Taken the plunge, ordered my first pair of #altras ... Tips for transitioning from Brooks Ghost to Altra Torin? I'll of course break them in and rotate with the old ones etc.
I'm much more a mid- to forefoot runner on the treadmill now and my feet are just struggling. I've tried new insoles, the shoes are wide fit and only have 180 miles on them so pretty sure it's not that they are already dead. So giving it a go with a different shoe to see if that makes a difference.
@rcheesley any kind of transition in drop should be done progressively: for example, start using the Altra for small runs, then longer, etc. The goal is to strengthen your feet.

@fo thanks for the advice, yes I'm planning to break them in gradually, maybe only on my active recovery weeks where the runs are shorter. I guess it will also need some work on the calves, that's what took a battering last time I tried to reduce drop significantly.
@rcheesley liked the Torin my first Altras, but liked even more the Escalante. Quite sure though that for transitioning Torin is a better choice (easier)

Several years back I tried to switch over to Hoka Clifton 5s but my calves really didn't cope at all. I was very much a heel striker back then though, so I'm hopeful that with the changes in running form it will be an easier journey this time!
Was there anything you found helpful when you made the switch?
