If regulators actually pass mandatory automatic power cuts & speed limiters for e-bikes before they do so for the 2 ton metal boxes that actually kill 90%+ of the people in traffic I will start a riot
For my own bikes, I've always used fixed gear bikes or three speed sturmey-archer hubs. For the family cargo bikes, NuVinci/Enviolo hubs (with twist shifters).
My Yuba Kombi has a 9-speed cassette/derailleur with trigger shifter. I love the shifter, but hate the derailleur.
So I'm wondering if I just get another #Enviolo (expensive, heavy, twist shifter) or try out a Shimano #Alfine 8 (cheaper, lighter, trigger shifter)? Complicating factor being the BBS02 motor.
I do have a gear shift sensor for the motor that briefly turns off motor power when I shift. I've heard mixed reviews about the #Alfine 8 - people saying they've ridden it thousands of km with #bafang mid-drive motors, others saying they killed it. But one of the cargo bikes I bought has a bafang mid-drive (#BBSHD, so more power/torque than the #BBS02) and a dead #Enviolo hub (N330, so not the burlier Enviolo Heavy Duty hub that I'd likely get).
I don't think I've posted a full pic yet of my #Yuba#Kombi with #Bafang#BBS02 750W mid-drive motor installed. It's got a 48V 12Ah battery from #UnitPowerPack installed (form factor: #Hailong G56). So far I've ridden 45mi and the battery is at roughly 50%, so I'm expecting a comfortable range of 65-70mi per charge. #BikeTooter#ebike
I ordered a #TSDZ2 programming cable (https://cycles.eco/products/tsdz2-motor-firmware-programming-cable-with-6ft-usb-extension). I really don't like the default settings and motor is noisy. After getting the #BBSHD (which either Luna or the prior owners had programmed with fantastic settings) and the #BBS02 (which came with stock settings that were pretty bad, but I reprogrammed with the #bafang programming cable and now it's almost as good as the BBSHD), I've realized that replacing the TSDZ2 firmware is probably going to be a huge difference.
Doesn't work in firefox, but does in (debian's) chromium assuming you have read/write permission on /dev/ttyUSB0. I was dreading downloading some old crappy windows software and figuring out how to make it work, so this is really nice.
#Luna sells some special #ebikes and motos, and the Ludi X2, which bridges the two, might be the best example of that. They took the Class 3 500W-rated #Bafang M600 Motor that advertises 120Nm of torque and are pumping more than quadruple rated power through there, sometimes up to 2500W.
Bummed that my #Bafang#BBSHD didn't come with a connector to power headlights.. but I've got my #Cetma Margo with a #TSDZ2 that does have headlight connectors, & a dynamo hub on the front wheel. So I can move the dynamo hub wheel onto the BBSHD Cetma Largo, & use that for lighting. The TSDZ2 Cetma Margo can switch to using the ebike motor/battery for powering lights.
But seriously, why would you make an ebike motor w/out light connections? (newer BBSHDs now include connectors, I think)
Here's a brand new* tensioned and true wheel. Specifically using one of #Enviolo's "Heavy Duty" hubs (#N380 equivalent) that should hopefully be able to handle the output from the #Bafang#BBSHD motor.
