Hey ,
The city of is considering capping a portion of that runs downtown. A friend with connections might be able to get ’s attention to add in their analysis the of that portion of the highway, similar to Minneapolis, Rochester, Dallas etc.
Does anyone know of transportation groups in the Wilmington community or other cities who’d be able to help us in that conversation?

If riding an ebike is "cheating" compared to other exercise, why do my ebike rides have such a profound effect on my happiness and physical well-being? Why do I have measurably better health and get dramatically more minutes of activity compared to when I was riding a non-electric bike? Why can't I find a single downside to this form of exercise other than cost?

If it walks like exercise and quacks like exercise, maybe just call it exercise and leave off the judgment.

Happy to have solved the problem of the school bus driver honking at us every morning.

It's been a week, and not a single honk.

Took this old steely out for a 40-mile (64km) ride today.

I’ve had it since new in 1989. It doesn’t see much use these days, but once I’m on it, I remember why I’ve kept it. It’s not a light bike, but the geometry provides for quick handling, and the triple on the front gives it a super gear range. Hard to describe, but it just feels “right” under you.

Winds really picked up towards the end, so the last ten miles were brutal with 30+mph (48+km/h) of gusty headwind. I’m telling myself it was good for me. :)

Was glad to get home, but had to take a lap around our block to cross the 40 mile mark. :)

This is the bike lane along Aberdeen Beach. It enrages car drivers because cyclists never use it. I've never once been there when there wasn't at least one car parked right there. They also park on the zigzag line at the crossing. I've also never seen a traffic warden. I wonder if the two things are related. #BikeTooter

Today we did a 20 mile ride out to a beach on Oslofjord.

I really need to stop and take more photos as it's hard to put into words how much more pleasant biking is in Norway than the US.

The bike infrastructure is better than Seattle but most importantly the car drivers are far more aware of bikes and I almost never feel like I'm in a dangerous situation.

Has anyone named the paradox where someone being considerate to a cyclist is actually dangerous because the 5 asshats behind them will try and rush through as soon as they're able, whatever the risks?

PipGowenlock,
@PipGowenlock@urbanists.social avatar

Not saying people should not be considerate, nor that I'm not grateful for their thought. Just that asshats gonna asshat, and by doing so they risk my life.

Lamppost EV chargers are the answer to how you charge your vehicle in cities.

This is possible because when energy intensive street lamps were replaced by LEDs, there’s excess power for charging EVs.

All cities should do this. ⚡️

@davidho Here's an enhancement: setting up bike corrals with ebike charging capabilities by streetlight poles.

In urban environments with multistory apartments, storing a bike above the ground floor is a challenge for many; a 50+ lb/23+ kg ebike even more of a challenge. Curbside storage and charging would enable cycling for many. And the total demand is much less than EV charging...

Two more boxes of books donated to the library via bicycle. Must be 100 lbs in these two, decided against 3 boxes, which was a good choice.
