Going to the bathroom @ Craftwork Brewery (Oamaru, New Zealand) is always exciting 😁 as the walk through the barrel room gives you a sneak peek of the amazing brews that are waiting to be bottled. 🤗🍻

Beer from last night. Drank the new Elder Pine Lord Maris, The Otter - Barleywine - 15.7%

So this beer has been getting major hype, even outside of Maryland. I've seen people calling this beer as having whale quality. Going to be honest here. It's great, but a bit overhyped.

I've liked other Elder Pine barleywines even better than this one, so don't overpay if you chase beer whales.

Giving up on the weather, time to enjoy some AGED barrel-aged delights.

2021 Bourbon County has aged well, full-bodied with beautiful mellow bourbon and vanilla notes and a sweet brown sugar finish. Decadent!

Drinking a Bruery Birnebon Punch - Bourbon barrel-aged wheatwine-style ale with pear, orange zest, and spices - 15.3%

Pear is really the dominant flavor on this one. Super tasty overall.

Watching the Ravens lose to KC. It’s not film noir, but it’s dark days for Baltimore…

So pairing is Double Vanilla Noir barrel aged stout! Big vanilla lead with a lasting bourbon sweet finish. Rich and full-bodied.

More of an Old Fashioned than a stout, so it’s

Bourbon Barrel Barrel-Aged Quad is sweet cherry bourbon with a hint of bitters. A fave in this space!

Closing out with CoCo Nitro Darkness, super smooth cocoa, deep and barrel- aged sweetness, really ending up as the favorite of the 2023 varietals!

Kids decided to stop by for dinner, so double the dragons in the cellar!

It’s a Peter Gabriel-esque dark side / light side show.

Dragon’s Milk Tales of Gold bourbon-barrel aged Golden Ale. Like a light quadruple with sweet bourbon notes. Delightful.

Let them eat CAKE for !

barrel-aged German chocolate cake pastry stout opens with a big cherry chocolate nose and a barrel slap from the 17% ABV(!). Sharp yet smooth in a deep black full bodied pour.

Dessert before dinner again? Yes please!

Drinking a Bruery Bananas - Rum Barrel-aged imperial stout with graham crackers, bananas, brown sugar, milk sugar, and Tahitian vanilla beans - 13.3%

Rum hits up front, but the beer just becomes super sweet. It's still tasty, just not something I need in a 750mL bottle

Drinking a Speciation Artisan Ales Cultured Club Exclusive 1 (2021) - Eastern Kille Rum Barrel Aged Sour Ale with Honey - 10%

Really tasty. The honey and rum come through just enough to not ruin the sourness.

Drinking a Bruery The Vine (2020) - Ale w/ grenache blanc grapes and viognier grapes aged in oak barrels - 12.2%

This one is a really nice sour. Very white wine like with that oak barrel finish. Loving it.

And that’s another week and another Dragon (or six) slain!

Tales of Gold bourbon barrel aged golden ale hits the spot.

Sweet lager with honey, caramel, and bourbon notes. Pleasant and smooth. May Smaug be quieted for the evening!

Replacing the first with a better choice - barrel aged Speedway Stout 2023.

Oak barrels done right, chocolate and vanilla bourbon nose, tastes of coffee, vanilla, and a lasting bourbon background.

Starting dark on with BlackOps barrel aged

Cocao and vanilla up front with a slight bourbon note and sour oaky finish. We’ll see what our guests say, but I’m NOT digging the lingering sour.

Calling but no one will get the tag, so just for the views 😀

A good day for a Backwoods Bastard scotch ale. Ruby red, bourbon, malty, sweet. A go to frequent repeat, another tasty

Reached for the Bourbon Barrel Quad and then remembered the new Dragons Milk Tales of Gold was a similar flavor.

Had to side-by-side them! The Quad is for sure more cherry-bitters. The Golden is smoother and has the Quad notes without the cherry bite.

A worthy showdown! My wife prefers the Quad (not what I expected).

Van Moll did it again... A really nice Calvados barrel aged rye wine. Sweetness, caramelly, dried fruit with an oaky and subtle bitterness in the end.
