I was lucky: I was diagnosed relatively early - I was in a big city with teaching hospitals. I had many various treatments to reduce chronic pain. Knowing the issue, I could use nutrition to control it, too.
But stories like these are still very common. The destruction of a person's life should not be waved away as "in your head":

@lexicaleigh You know, a while ago a bunch of us had a long discussion about misogyny in general and the reality of the dangers women face daily, and how shit the police are at dealing with it, which we opened up to men for their input. With only a couple of notable exceptions, even here, the eventual argument was "not all men".
