It took more than a year of nagging MTA and RecPark, but there’s finally bike racks at Brazil/Persia/Mansell in #McLarenPark. Come through #bikeSF! Perfect place to lock and hike the Philosopher’s Way trail
In Oakland I came across this actually protected bike lane with concrete, not just a flexpost to cosplay protection. Hope this advanced technology becomes available west of the Bay someday. #bikeSF
Annoying it doesn't connect with Polk or Embarcadero but sometimes you gotta chip away like that. At least there's a not bullshit reason on the east side (no budget for redoing Embarcadero signal). In this neighborhood, with how little infra there is, I'll take a flawed project over nothing. Two-way plz. #BikeSF
I wish I hadn't been so right about Tumlin's "make everyone equally unhappy" philosophy being a disaster.
Me in 2021: "A watered-down plan"—like the Valencia center bikeway!—"can achieve the worst of both worlds. It makes driving harder, but fails to improve... safety enough to get drivers onto alternatives. The agency has indeed made everyone unhappy, but that’s not a sign it did its job. Quite the opposite." https://scott.mn/2021/03/22/recommitting_transit_first_sfmta/#SFPol#BikeSF
The Folsom-Howard Streetscape project is finally happening! Folsom will start construction in March. It'll take 30 months 🫠 and 3-block sections will be closed for 8 months at a time starting with 8th to 11th St.
The protected bike lane will be officially two-way, so you can bike from SoMa to the Mission w/o the Howard-11th-Folsom "wiggle." A transit lane will speed up the 12, 8 and 27 (eastbound). New midblock signal crossings will improve walkability.
I’ll be honest, even as an opponent of Tumlin’s asinine idea of a center running bike lane, I’m surprised the numbers are this bad. There is no spinning a 50% decline in biking on the corridor. #ValenciaStreet#BikeSF#BikeTooter
I overspoke. Of course SFMTA is spinning the 50% decline in biking on Valencia, calling it “out of context”; those who shared the figure are not being “collaborative and thoughtful.”
The real results, according to them? A “promising” 3% increase.
Let’s put aside this itself being out of context as they provided no dates. That’s statistically no change. That’s not a success. #ValenciaStreet#BikeSF
Plot twist! One of the merchants at today's protest of the #ValenciaStreet bike lane is from Copenhagen, and would be fine with a normal, side-running protected bike lane. Let's do it!
