@jchyip it was not at a public facing company but I did version control and build management at a very large financial firm in the late 1990’s. We had some applications that were built and deployed daily (built on a dedicated build platform and then deployed) most other apps had a slower build/release cycle but we were definitely using a build/test/prod model for apps back in a 1997-1999 timeframe. Wasn’t continuous integration for most.

(For context this firm had 1000 devs and 1200+ apps)

@kevinmoerman oooooh yes, we started doing 100% as mandatory for all new projects like a year ago. It helps SO MUCH.

Now we try to cover the 100% with Literate-rendered docs, which is also very useful, kinda guarantees that everything in the package is up-to-date documented.

Huge thanks to @combustiblelemonade and @YoSoyFreeman for a very productive meeting today over !
We're like 90% there on our way to have our first automated test running for the game! We just need to figure out how to have import the game project without a display server... or we'll have to run a display server on a VPS just for that :P
If any Godot devs have figured out for game projects - please share your ways!

The slash in the middle of “CI/CD” is one of nature’s rare decoupling opportunities. There are few examples of such joyfully loose coupling.

So why are people making their lives harder by trying to treat them the same?

I've shared my thoughts in this post on The New Stack in this post.

After 3 years I finally came to publish the last part of On the Evilness of Feature Branching ...

Where is the Evilness of Feature Branching?

the evilness surprisingly hides behind the use of feature branches

I bet the massive (and growing) resource consumption of cloud computing is largely because seemingly every CI job downloads (a) an entire operating system, (b) a full set of pinned dependencies, (c) the full version control history of your project, then (d) builds all of them from scratch, then (e) it’s all thrown away and run again because you just force-pushed a typo fix.

@alatiera I'm not necessarily talking about gitlab.gnome.org!

I’m sceptical most places are doing when they say “CI” never mind when they say “CD”
