This screenshot may look the same as most of my other screenshots. But therein lies the success!
Been refactoring Past Me's terrible first steps into hex grid generation to remove some hardcoded stuff. And as a bonus, I got to delete a ton of other crappy code at the same time.
Everything looking (and mostly functioning) the same now as it did two days ago? Huge success! 😎
#HonestGameDev Oh hey, nice tag! Anyway, i've spent 5 years on a work that should take a year at most because i'm clearly not a functional adult, but i do have a working game now and i'm satisfied with what i made 🙂 🎮
Honestly, would've been faster if i went for making a tiny playable slice right away. You know - the way every guide and tutorial recommends doing things 😅 But i'm slow, so i went against the grain thinking i knew better.
Here's a little toy I put together yesterday at the #GodotEngine-only edition of the @berlinminijam (organized in cooperation with the @GodotUserGroupBerlin). The winning theme was "your health bar is more than just a health bar" and after I failed miserably at putting together a "Getting Over It"-like where you'd climb things using your health bar, I ended up with this bendy boy instead. Assets by @kenney!
SUGGESTION:
Try to improve #GameDev Social Media life, by balancing successful/beautiful posts (e.g. #ScreenshotSaturday), by also posting brutally honest imperfect/failed attempts (#ShoddySunday?) 😉
Coming out the other side of BirdGate, can I just take this opportunity to remind other #GameDev folks...it's ok to share your ridiculous struggles and false starts and mistakes as well as your fancy screenshots.
