💥 #Toronto / GTA residents you may have been exposed to #measles at two these medical locations:
Mackenzie Health - Cortellucci #Vaughan Hospital - ER waiting room on Feb. 26 from approximately 2:40 p.m. to 4:55 p.m.
Vellore Medical Clinic #Woodbridge on Feb. 26 from approximately 12:10 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
"When the Ohio outbreak began, Roberts advised that unvaccinated children who had been exposed to measles receive one dose of the mumps-measles-rubella (MMR) vaccine as a form of “post-exposure prophylaxis,” she said.
The 21-day quarantine was reduced to just 72 hours for kids who got the shot.
Infectious disease experts told Roberts it could take six months or more to get it under control. She and her team did it in three."
Continuing to vote in the anti-science party (Republicans) whose "vaccine skeptic" candidates put up "vaccine skeptic" surgeon generals gives you a resurgence in diseases we thought we had eradicated 20+ years ago (measles) #uspoli#measles#republicans
Imagine what these kids that are contracting measles in Florida are going to think when they figure out their parents could have stopped them from getting it in the first place and that the state not only didn't step up, but stepped back and said- whatever.
FYI, you can still get infected with #measles if you have had the #MMR vaccine. It does not prevent infection itself. What it prevents is the disease form of measles, which -- with vaccination -- the immune system keeps in check
What we don't know is how #covid and our friend #SARSCoV2 -- a virus that impacts the immune system's ability to keep infections in check -- will end up impacting this
It would be wise, then, to prevent measles infection entirely by filtering it out of the air
The return of measles is the "canary in the coalmine" for the country's ability to fight the spread of vaccine-preventable diseases, vaccine expert Paul Offit told Axios earlier this month.
"Scientists have known for years that measles can alter the immune system – but the latest evidence suggests it's less of a mild tweaking, and more of a total reset."
"As for the other two cases, the county is trying to determine if there is a connection to the school. Perhaps a Manatee Bay student played with another child or a family member. "
"Two doses of the measles vaccine is 97% effective against the disease, meaning even vaccinated people can contract the disease if it is allowed to spread in an undervaccinated community."
"The Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) considers 95% the immunization threshold to prevent outbreaks." #Measles
"#Measles outbreaks can also serve as a canary in the coal mine for the return of other vaccine-preventable diseases. The virus is so incredibly infectious that it’s likely to be the first disease to flare up once immunization coverage declines."
