I regularly search this article but never can remember (or spell) the authors name.
"Night Watch" is a quite artsy search term, in combination with "drunk goldfish" I usually succeed, but not after seeing other unexpected Search results.
So here an article recommendation (with a slightly selfish touch 😜)
"The Night Watch" by James Mickens
USENIX ;login: logout issue, November 2013
A humorous tongue in cheek reckoning with programming. Wrapped in an explanation of why a systems programmer is the most important team member to survive in a post-apocalyptic world.
"A systems programmer will know what to do when society breaks down, because the systems programmer already lives in a world without law."
"A systems programmer has seen the terrors of the world and understood the intrinsic horror of existence. The systems
programmer has written drivers for buggy devices whose firmware was implemented by a drunken child or a sober goldfish."
Today I learned #Java programes packaged as an Windows Executable are self-extracting archive (SFX). At least some of them.
On Windows manged to extract start.exe and the jar via 7zip (which didn't work under Linux, hints on why are welcome), On Linux unrar worked.
Through this I could inspect the content and determine the differences between two executables 🙂 #cybersecurity
Post more positive things. Use social networks to share joy that inspires other people to also do the little things that collectively add to a better world. Lead by example instead of complaining and criticising. Negativity never makes people change things. Positivity does. Post something good every day. #GoodNight
This is also a #Note2Self. I post too much negativity as it is so simple to complain and leave it at that for the „you right! I agree!“ reactions that ultimately don’t help to cause change. It is hard to share solutions. But I’m trying.
