Anyone here have experience updating a Dockerized Perl application? Specifically I am looking for help upgrading the app from 5.26 to 5.30 and how to rectify errors where some libraries (I think?) were built for Perl 5.26 and won't work under 5.30?
My #perl#perl5 talk, "Updates from the PSC" (Perl Steering Council) will be in the K.3.402 Perl and Raku devroom, on Saturday 3rd Feb (i.e. today) at 13:55 #fosdem#fosdem2024
In a +1 score to #Perl's great back-compatibility, I've had a script called from procmail that's been 100% reliable for the past 15 years maintaining my email, over many years of regular Perl updates.
@pjakobs@jwz@leonerd@Sdowney I think it’s charitable to the #Perl 6 splitters. The Golgafrinchan Ark B group in "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" was mostly harmless 😉 (and useless); the #Perl6 effort was, at best, neglecting #Perl5 compatibility, and at worst, actively throwing bombs at it.
What do you mean I can't use em-dash in my IAM Role Description? What kind of ham-headed skullbuggery — if you'll pardon my fictionalized colloquialisms — puts that kind of limit in what is ostensibly a field containing descriptive text?
@kusuriya@randomgeek#Perl has handled #Unicode since v5.6 released in 2000. #AWS debuted two years after. Heck, Bezos had only been working out of his garage for three months when #Perl5 was released. What the hell is their excuse for using #Perl4?
