COMMENTARY CLUB - Minisode 060 - Top of the Pops 80s Showdown
We thought we'd revisit a Top of the Pops from 1988 the week Big was released... and it didn't go so good. So we also had a look at an earlier episode from 1985 to the right the balance!
I was watching an old episode of #TopOfThePops and there were these two Dutch dudes doing a #rap over the music of Madonna's Holiday.
They were called DJ Mike Wiffwaff and Sven or something. And it was so fucking lousy.
I've always loathed the casual kind of rap, like, Hey! Rap's really easy! sort of thing. I mean, it really displays its cultural appropriation. It's just an embarrassment.
The British music show #TopOfThePops; throughout its peak years you could wander through your towns whilst it was being broadcast and there would not be another soul out there, they were like ghost towns. The attraction of #TOTP with all generations was quite literally mind blowing and I doubt it will ever be repeated.
