@maow_tty@godotengine@defold AFAIK, #W4Games was specifically founded to make that possible and do the #SDK integration whilst also complying with the #NDA's of the Platform Owners and only providing said integration to Developers that have been licensed for said Platform.
Finally someone whos take on this is not "Everything is fine, wont affect me or any of you. If my game hits that threashold I will happily pay any fees and sacrivfice my firstborn. Now buy my unity courses!"
If you have been using #Unity and you wanna jump ship to the nearest competitor, #GodotEngine is gonna be your best bet. The structure of a project isn't exactly the same, but it's similar enough that it won't take long to adjust.
Below, I'll give a few tips and talk about pain points you might run into, to help you try it out properly, and make an evaluation. #GameDev
It's mostly a #license#compatibility issue to some extend, but since it's MIT-licensed that is somewhat mitigateable and #W4Games was founded specifically to provide this as a commercial option whilst funding the core engine development and backporting stuff that isn't covered by #NDA's like #DirectX12...
@Fenreliania So I'd rather expect #W4Games to make that #SDK integration happening with a sort-of toolchain similar to #Unity: Thus they as a #Company can comply with all the #NDAs and #Gatekeeping the Platform Owners demand - just like Unity today.
#Godot Community Forums were made read-only by a new owner.
At May this year, the previous owner of GCF @TwistedTwigleg has burnt out and tranferred the ownership of forum to @cybereality. Andres was granted all the permissions needed due to his enthusiasm. In the middle of this week, zie suddenly created an exhaustive post accusing #GodotEngine to be a scam.
Now, I'm not going to peel the layers of threads and subthreads of this incident for you, so better read for yourself.
The sheer fact that #Godot Community Forums got closed off because of some disagreements and confusion of the successor around #W4Games/#GodotFoundation and promises of the massive #FOSS project... I'd argue it is not as disappointing as the feeling of being betrayed for not giving away red flags before this whole debuckle even started to pan out.
If you make a #forum in a sense of place where different points of view are brought up, you should know better than to make a controversial post, lock it and pin it. Same difference with legit issues that were locked without any sensible resolution in issue tracker for yet another #OpenSource project.
