One of the only perfect use cases for #AI writing stuff for me that I can think of: Birthday Cards or Happy Special Occasion to people I've lost touch with and just want to say something generically upbeat.

Come to think of it, I actually had a program like this for my #AtariST computer in the late 80's. It was called Personal Poet. It let you choose an occasion and it would write generic flowery verse for you. It was of course, pretty bad as far as poetry goes, but was entertaining enough to make you weight its earnestness more than its lack of talent.

gearsofgames,

@yesterzine Drop a comment and let us know! I am a bit curious about the PC version, it does look very similar though...

@gearsofgames @yesterzine pretty much "same, but beeper and EGA". I had this as a budget title as a kid, mainly from being obsessed with Sierra Cosworths, although by that point it was quite dated and never fired the imagination the same way as Car & Driver or the track editor in Grand Prix Unlimited.

Also found this Vintage Atari 520 ST Game System Machine on Goodwill. It's currently priced at $60 with the auction ending on May 29. Someday I’d love to get more into the Atari machines, both the 8-bit and 16-bit, they seem to be a bit of a dark horse that could have been much more popular even than they were. More details here: https://www.shopgoodwill.com/Item/199889478.

Confession of an Amiga enthusiast back in the day: I always liked the black and white hires mode of the Atari ST, which to me looked slicker than even the original Macintosh. And I still love that "printed page" experience of environments like Medley Interlisp.

@amoroso I remember the sight of a Macintosh II running a chess game at a computer dealership utterly transfixed me, it was the pages of Bobby Fischer Teaches Chess come to life.

The promise of a high refresh rate grayscale e-ink display is perpetually six months out. I would spend the rest of my life exiled to 4:5 at 200 dpi at 30 Hz or more, is there anyone else going in that direction?

@flyingsaceur It seems there isn't much experimentation with monochrome other than in the e-ink space.

Did you used to make computer games using STOS or AMOS?

I tried but I was too young to afford the resources I needed and ended up using copies pirated from friends. Even so it was a much better experience than the other development environments I was using at the time.

AMOS The development environment for Amiga game programming.

@selzero 👍

I once met the developer of AMOS, François Lionet, at a 1993 game dev event in Belgium, where we were both showing our Amiga productions to visitors.

Here's a Dutch report I wrote of the event, including a photo of François…

@selzero I have not published anything that I wrote in STOS, but it helped me understand the framebuffer structure and, from there, it led me toward learning 68000 assembly.

I've created stub page with some information / pointers related to V4SA(+) fpga m68k computer, which was meant for Amiga, but turns out it can be repurposed for Atari TOS / FreeMiNT stuff. https://bus-error.nokturnal.pl/V4SA Probably I will be expanding it the more I will learn about it. Currently Atari support is evolving and looks promising.
