What if #Activision had kept the same sprit and pace they initially started with when they broke from #Atari? Or if #Square did likewise for the early Final Fantasy era? Or #Rare from the #nintendo 64 era?
Maybe it was ultimately an unsustainable pace, but my goodness their glory days were glorious.
From Pong on the Atari to Mario Bros on Nintendo there as a massive leap in what appeared to be possible on such limited hardware. The hardware engineers and software developers at Nintendo were able to achieve such an amazing result due to their clever solutions.
Today we have these modern AI systems which clearly have limitations. I am now thinking what would it take for this same leap from Atari to Nintendo. We know there are problems with GenAI, but what could be done with it with these known limitations? The possibilities are still pretty hard to fathom. #AI#GenAI#Nintendo#Atari
The #Atari Jaguar received a fine console port of #DOOM that used BOTH of the Jaguar's main processors to handle the graphics. Typically one processor would handle the graphics and the other would handle the sound.
That's why the game runs so smoothly on the system and why there is no in-game music (only between stages).
It was developed in-house at id Software and served as the basis for virtually all other home console ports moving forward. :atari:
Thanks to @Inglebard video on the Atari Jaguar for letting me know about @ctrlaltrees 's very in depth article on the Atari Panther. It was supposed to be Atari's answer to the Genesis and SNES. #RetroGaming#Atarictrl-alt-rees.com/atari-panthe…
So having #Covid does have the upside of free time at home to get to this #Atari 2600 #Lego build. The cartridges can go in, the joystick has movement as do the switches, and a fun seen flips up from the console if you slide it forward.
Hi #retrocomputing Fedi — I have a question. I recently acquired a couple of classics, a ZX81 and an Atari 2600 (both PAL). However, I've not been able to get them going, for the simple reason that the analogue tuner in my (relatively) modern TV can't pick up the RF signal.
While composite video mods are readily available for both, and I'll probably opt for that long term, I'd like to get them working in their original condition. Any suggestions? Would a simple RF amplifier help? #retro#atari
Game cover artwork and movie artwork used to be so great. Modern cover artwork or AI artwork is so uninspired in comparison… #retrogaming#atari#asteroids
Did you used to make computer games using STOS or AMOS?
I tried but I was too young to afford the resources I needed and ended up using copies pirated from friends. Even so it was a much better experience than the other development environments I was using at the time.
