I’ve been rebuilding a #RaspberryPi installation that supports my classic Mac habit 😄
I used to use the awesome #MacIPGW image which includes a ton of pre-configured software like #netatalk. But it hasn’t been updated in a while so I used it as excuse to start from scratch.
I used this Pi Zero W as my starting point. HDMI video stopped working on it for unknown reasons. I added an Ethernet/USB hub hat and a #TashTalk 2 hat for #LocalTalk devices.
One piece that's missing is AURP aka #GlobalTalk support. I'd like to avoid running a VM and have something more lightweight.
Luckily @DrJosh9000 has created jrouter which comes very close to accomplishing this! Remote zones are showing up but are all empty and not sure if my zone is visible outside. I need to play with some settings some more I think. But soooo close!
I was messing around with my network today and spotted something funny - the Ubiquiti UniFi dashboard will actually by default classify Apple Internet Router/AURP in it’s traffic logs and even has a little custom icon for it!
Hey "The Worlds Fastest ImageWriter" just got a print job from #globaltalk! Thanks! #MARCHintosh lives all summer here. VCF East is done and so I'm finishing unpacking and turning back to the Mac, esp since I have a color 040 machine to play with now.
New #Insentricity post: Transforming Apple Internet Router into a Linux daemon.
It took until the middle of April, but with the help of several people I was able to put together a Docker container image that can be used as a sort of Apple Internet Router daemon. The config can be passed in entirely from outside the container and no pointy/clicky is required inside the emulated Macintosh.
So I finally filled the form to get connected #GlobalTalk . Sure a bit late for #MarchinTosh but it was on my list for a while. My Mac SE isn't alive at the moment but hopefully I can get into the fun with my Basilisk VM

The caps hadn't leaked much, but were certainly bad. These were my first lifted pads - since this one 'looked good' I applied some heat with the iron and pulled a few caps...definitely a bad idea.
Anyhow, this is my first bodge wire attempt and it worked out just fine! Can't wait to mess with PlainTalk and the Geoport Adapter soon 🗣️🎙️
Any #globaltalk friends have an AV Mac? This videoconferencing software was on the 660AV restore disc. I can drop it on my share if anyone wants to try! It appears to maybe auto recognize anyone on 'the network' with the app running. I don't think it does audio though, since it has a weird dialer function.
This has truly been a #marchintosh to remember! #GlobalTalk truly transformed my relationship to vintage Mac tinkering by directly connecting me to so many folks doing creative and interesting things (my zone watcher counted SEVENTY NINE zones!)
Thank you to everyone who sent print jobs, shared files, played games and came up with interesting technical solutions for this anachronistic, weird network we built.
So #marchintosh is ending, but as you all know, we celebrate 24/7/365 in this house!
This year has been super fun thanks to so many folks' efforts to make #globaltalk a thing! I'm going to stay online for the foreseeable future, but probably swap in an LC as router once I do a meanwell PSU swap.
And since mid-Feb, I've recapped ~10 Macs. Here is today's latest success, a real fighter: The Power Macintosh 6100/60! 😊
Last day of #MARCHintosh this year, and this has been the best one so far!
Previous years have been loads of folk doing interesting stuff and sharing what they've been up to, which was pretty incredible.
This year, we've had that plus#GlobalTalk to share files and calling cards and printers and whatnot. It's been so silly and so fun having that type of community interactivity.
So a massive thanks to all you guys and gals and folk in between for making it happen! The future is now :D
Ran across this old pro-Mac comic called “Hey, Stuff This!”. Downloaded all the strips from 1995-1998 that the wayback machine had and put on Blackbird in BaroNet on #GlobalTalk so you can get your yuks on 1996-style
So we've had a few IIGSs on #GlobalTalk (congrats on finally getting it online @smallsco!) but does anyone have an Apple II Workstation Card to bring a //e online?
