It has been a very intense day, I came out of the #HighCourt terrified for what can happen to Julian #Assange and, in theory, to other #WikiLeaks journalists.
If Julian #Assange deserves prison, I deserve the same: I have published the very same revelations.
This is a massive decision for people stuck in Australia's inhumane indefinite detention nightmare.
That any Australian government felt it was acceptable to shove someone into detention without any hope of being release when no crime occurred is a black mark on all of us; too many of us agreed with the policy.
"On Wednesday at least a majority of the high court ruled that indefinite immigration detention is unlawful when there was “no real prospect of removal from Australia becoming practicable in the reasonably foreseeable future”.
About. Bloody. Time.
But: why do we wait for a court decision to do the right thing by our fellow humans?
"Indefinite detention is unlawful, the high court has held, in a landmark decision overturning a 20-year old precedent that underpins Australia’s immigration detention system."
