Lives are being destroyed in real time as states and corporations watch passively - or offer active support. The slaughter of people in Gaza is an example of the kind of cheapening of human life that, apparently, we’re supposed to accept as part of our everyday.
Whose lives matter? is the theme of the next print edition of Freedom. Whose lives get protection, whose lives get mourned – whose lives seem to barely even exist in the consciousness of the powerful?
And this isn’t just about wars. People are being destroyed in wars fuelled by power grabs and the hunger for profits, but out on the street or past your neighbour’s walls, lives are being destroyed by poverty, illness and a general lack of seeing human life as precious for its own sake.

If you are an individual or organisation fighting for liberation from all forms of domination, to get lives recognised and save lives from this murderous modern contempt, we’d like to publish you. When the Tories suggest raising the State pension, what they are essentially doing is eliminating it entirely for the poorest.

Take this ONS table. while women live a bit longer, for men the most deprived decile in the UK before the pandemic died, on average, at the age of 73.

A retirement age of 71, therefore, represents two years of supported income in exchange for an entire lifetime of National Insurance payments automatically deducted from any salary earned. And of course for millions of the poorest they won't be getting anywhere near 71.

Functionally, for swathes of the UK population there is no pension.
