“Protesters to hold mass trespass of Cirencester Park over charging plans
Right to roam campaigners organise demonstration amid anger at Bathurst Estate’s introduction of £4 fee to visit park.” Meanwhile on the Bathurst Estate website. “We aspire in all that we do to make a meaningful and demonstrable contribution to the economic, environmental, and social wellbeing of the community in which we sit.” The rich are often hypocritical liars! #RightToRoam#Walking
Whilst in #Scotland we have a right of responsible access to land, #England and #Wales have a much more restrictive system where despite the #RightToRoam in designated areas, 2,500 of the areas people have a right to roam over don’t actually have a legal way to access them, on top of that you might not be able to get along a legal route anyway with 32,000 cases of blocked rights of way.

So I have a question ,in a few months I move into a house next to the NC500 route that has parking space in front of it .Its an eyecatching house likely to attract attention as other more normal homes on the route do.I have very good reasons for not wanting folk looking in my windows, wandering around my garden etc .I know this happens all summer and you cant post a private sign. Can I post an admission £15 sign to prevent access
The message here is that the great unwashed are the source of any harm that comes to our countryside, and that farmers are blameless custodians of the land. 🤔
@Snoweider I go walking in the countryside and hardly see a soul once I'm away from the urban areas. Dog walkers will just stick to their local routes. Yes there are the usual idiots who turn up to trash the local beauty spot but well into the countryside it's only likely to be dedicated walkers. I think it's manageable and the people who understand and use #righttoroam will respect the countryside as they love it.
Perhaps farmers could remove the rubbish from their farms first?
Hi to everyone interested in #RightToRoam, #AONBs, #NationalParks, and all things transparency and outdoorsy, please give a big #Masodon welcome (and a follow if these topics are up your street) to my good friend @lewiswinks 👏💖
Hi #Fediverse, looking for instance suggestions for my good friend. He's an academic, an eco-activist and lives in #Totnes, #devon. Does a lot of stuff about #Dartmoor and the #RightToRoam
Morning view from Ingra Tor on #Dartmoor. I see that Darwall is dragging his attempt to stop wild camping on Dartmoor (a traditional custom going back over 100 years) to the supreme court. Hopefully he loses again, and we can begin the task of introducing a right to camp like Scotland has, across the rest of the UK.
The Pentlands 'Management Association' are scarrying on screwing down on access which has led to the 2023 run (scheduled for October) being cancelled. This comes on top of existing efforts to restrict activities in the area by the association that have been widely reported.
Wild Camping has been restored on #Dartmoor after a successful court appeal.
Let's use this as an opportunity to sort out the right to roam across England and Wales. We all need access to nature, and the closer we are to nature, the more we care about it.
Spectacular own goal from the Darwalls. By bringing the court case to ban wild camping on Dartmoor, they have successfully galvanised a huge open access, right to roam campaign, and then lost their own case on appeal, whilst simultaneously drawing everyone's attention to the right to camp. This should be the beginning of a continuing campaign until we are free to do this across the whole of the UK. #RightToRoam#Dartmoor#WildCamping#Hiking https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2023/jul/31/wild-camping-dartmoor-court-appeal
