Cork icosahedron. Displayed here on a zebrawood reliquary. I keep thinking of different materials for the polyhedra.

I see a lot of icosahedra with numbers on the faces. I thought I would try engraving one of the wooden ones with those. I didn’t want it to be too plain. So, I made some knotwork to go around the numbers.

A small (~6cm / 2.25”) icosahedron whose wooden faces are engraved with a Celtic knot border surrounding numbers like a 20-sided die sits on an ornate 3-legged wooden stand.

After being 'lost and found' (long story), I'm going to engrave the castanets of my youngest.

The box says "casañuelas fibra 037 negro 100% sintetico"

Obviously not wood, but I'm wondering what it's made of and if laser engraving is doable.

I read somewhere that castanets get made from some fibre + resin, if that's any help

Tips welcome!

(yes we can just scratch initials in them with a nail, but.. but.. but... lasercutter)

Monport spam has shown up with a new tactic. In response to someone asking for help with an Omtech machine, they wrote some vague "well try something else" and praised Monport tech support, and suggested reaching out to Monport for support. For an Omtech machine. The text appeared to be designed to poison consumer sentiment AI summaries to favor Monport.

I don't care whether this is currently considered fraud by a legal definition. It is clearly a morally corrupt attempt to manipulate buyers. Before you buy anything from please consider whether you want to support this kind of behavior.

It's still less work to manually approve every legit post on Maker Forums about Monport than confirm and clean up all the arriving spam about Monport.

The code allows for 3D and 2D versions, so you can either print or cut feathers ( ) and will generate an array of feathers based on how many you specify.

In addition to the code, there are example files for 3 different types of feather in , and format.

Fun tip:
(almost) Everything on .py (https://www.festi.info/boxes.py/) an be cut from cardboard. And even the humblest cheap diode can cut cardboard packaging.

I've used this to good effect with some of the 'hinged box' designs for presents and gifts.

But this is more practical, a sorting tray that took an hour from thinking about it to fully assembled. So tight it doesn't need glue, and fully once it gets manky or superseded.
