The main benefit of following an agile approach is to deliver solutions more quickly.

It is FALSE!

Delivering faster is of no benefit if the solution does not meet the customer or user's needs. The main benefit of an agile approach is that it provides an opportunity to inspect the value that customers experience and adapt based on that feedback.

Reading "The River of Night's Dreaming" by Karl Edward Wagner.

Night one: I better put this down, it's so late and it's creepy as fuck.

Finishing on night two: I know my husband is about to go to sleep, but I've got to interrupt his nightly ritual to explain just how fucked up this story was. Less it stay in my subconscious and I dream about it.

"The River of Night's Dreaming" by Karl Edward Wagner, is the first non public domain story ive read in the . It's part of 's Cycle collection.

It is in some ways the creepiest thing i've read not just within this mythos, but just recently.

It is also incredibly metafictional in a way. By seemingly making allusions, and lifting names and familial relationships with characters from Chamber's The Repairer of Reputations.

It's not exactly a sequel, but reading the older original story first, adds an additional dreamlike "what the hell is going on here?" quality to it. It's already very dreamlike/nightmare-like so it just kind of boosts the whole thing.

It does contain very fragmented experiences of same-sex sexual assault; and while played for horror they also were well written and it didn't play out like classic gay panic.

The title is a deliberate Rocky Horror Picture Show reference, which seems to imply the author was trying to intentionally set the work in the queer-horror genre. And it read as such.

Highly recommended, stands alone from the original "Repairer of Reputations" story from Chambers. But it is also right now the best reason to read that original story too.

Reading more fiction in . "The Yellow Sign" is probably the best one yet from Robert W Chambers in my opiniin. Would likely be my sugested starting point for anyone wondering down the same path as me. Shorter and tighter. Near the beggining where the ideas are firming up.

trashheap, (edited ) to CallOfCthulhu

Ive been reading a lot of the fiction surrounding in the past few days. Largely for material. Robert W. Chambers's "The Repairer of Reputations" left me with a similar feeling as 's own The Temple.

Less about the creepy horror vibe being similar. (I liked, "The Temple" more in that respect.)

But more in how there is a lot of racism being espoused by a character early in the story. But it's not clear if the story as a whole is sympathetic with the racism or not.

With Lovecraft, his racism is much more well known and once your familiar with his larger body of work, those two facts work to "remove all doubt".

But I know so much less about Robert Chambers.

Poking around the web, there seems to be some opinion that Chambers was engaging in some very subtle / sharp satire.

(You got to scroll pretty far down this link to get to the commentary.)

But still it left me deeply uncomfortable with the story.

Another new Mythosesque RPG crawls into the light, using Ken St. Andre's Monsters! Monsters! rules: "Shub-Niggurath Always Rings Twice."

I know nothing about this one. It's the same publisher as the reprint of The Lovecraft Variant (which received some criticism for layout and presentation) but looks to be a completely original adventure with quickstart rules included.
