I am at the steadily rebuilding a nice rss feed collection phase, but still pre “omg I need to organize these into folders or something” phase. You? #rss#netnewswire
So, it's been 10 years since Google Reader shut down, and it casued me to loose interest in RSS-feeds. Then spent way too much time feeding "big social" on platforms that slowly crubmled.
Now I'm back on #NetNewsWire and posting about it here 🙂
The indie-web is way cooler than anything corporations are offering to make a profit.
I try not to post about other social sites on here much so we can let #Mastodon be Mastodon, but I thought I’d offer my thoughts as I’ve been trying out #BlueSky and #Threads.
The other sites feel loud in a familiar but uncomfortable way. It’s like I’m in a room full of billboards.
Mastodon feels more like a coffee shop where I might stumble on a fun conversation.
I’ve also found that I’m rediscovering #RSS feeds and #NetNewsWire for news. More news. Less anger-baiting for social clout.
Does anyone here use Reeder 5? I'm giving RSS feeds a try and am having problems with the “Subscribe with Reeder" extension in Safari.
For example, if I try to sub to the NintendoLife news feed by clicking on the Reeder extension, it gives me a “server not found" error and only picks up the standard non-feed URL of “https://www.nintendolife.com/news”
I know they're still out there, but I miss blogs. I miss them being one of the main ways of expressing oneself on the Internet. For a fun bit of nostalgia, I was kind of skimming through neocities.org. Those (sorta) early, heady days of the Internet have a lot of great memories for me.
#Feedly is really the perfect platform for combining podcasts; YouTube and #PeerTube videos; blogs, journals, and news site articles all in a clean interface with a consistent experience.
#NetNewsWire - @NetNewsWire - darmowa aplikacja open source do czytania RSS. Dodatek do przeglądarki pozwala zapisać każdą stronę jako źródło. Synchronizacja przez iCloud, możliwość dodania konta z Feedbin, Feedly, Inoreader i innych. Łatwe udostępnianie artykułów w innych aplikacjach. Dostępna na MacOS, iPadOS i iOS. Serdecznie polecam jako alternatywę innych podobnych programów.
Anyone using an #RSS client for offline reading? I like #NetNewsWire but images don’t cache. I’ve got #Reeder 5 too but it seems to have the same problem. It looks like #Lire does what I need… Or am I missing a setting on one of the others?
If you’re using social networks to find news about the things you’re interested in (yes, that includes Mastodon), it’s time to stop and use something that was actually made for that: RSS!
So I made a quick video about this old tech, and how it’s still the absolute best way of curating what you read, watch, receive, or listen to:
I’ve been using the #Feedly#rss reader on my phone/iPad for many years, but the slow enshitification of it just recently sped up. Deleted my account, looking for a new one. Recommendations?
Below are my feed subs (I use NetNewsWire), which help me stay informed and keep learning every day (as fullstack dev interested in web, UX, and perf).
