In other news, as I figured would happen, Hamas has run out of bullshit. Those hostages are probably mostly dead and have been for months. Hamas would let them appear on international television describing the attacks of Oct 7th in vivid detail. Their free press pass is nearly expired.

all in all it would be really useful if my @ivory syncs my timeline position again across iOS and macOS, without requiring a forced restart all the time.

@jer @ivory I find it works reliably if my devices are “close" in position, but if one is say 3 days 2k msgs behind, it won't sync

hey @ivory how does the Explore view Posts tab update.
I was at the bottom, had opened the image in the last thing and then when I was going to share it “POOF” it be gone.
Does it update automatically? I had thought it did not.

I learned a neat concept today.

When you've never tried a skill, you don't know that you're terrible at it: you are unconsciously incompetent.

Then you try it, and at first you suck, because of course you do: you're consciously incompetent.

Then you build your skill, to the point where you don't suck anymore and you're pretty solid: you're consciously competent.

And finally you get so good that it feels like no big deal anymore; it has become effortless: you're unconsciously competent.

@xahteiwi We use this at my work. And what we talk about beyond this is the following rule: When you move into a new position, regardless of what quadrant you were in before, you move back to the first level. Understanding this is important on expectations being set correctly

@xahteiwi so instead of going "up" levels and reaching the top, you go through the square. It makes it more clear that when you are unconsciously competent, then next thing to move into is unconsciously incompetent as you move into a new positions

Seeing something strange in the latest @ivory for the mac.
I had 3 columns ( home, explore, hashtags).
Now when I open I have home, home, hashtags.
I cannot get the middle column back to explore.

Anyone see this?

I really think all these tech companies are going to be in rough shape when the other shoe drops.

Yes, right now, it's making a lot of sense to their bottom line. Record-breaking profits can surely be even more record-breaking if you slice headcount. Yes, a correction after pandemic hiring is likely in order.

But fostering an industry culture where everyone is afraid of being laid off all the time is not going to work out well long term.

Sifting through the debug information of Microsoft libraries I found a couple of interesting things:

  • Not all teams / divisions use the same setup. Some strip executables down to almost nothing, others leave some useful stuff, others leave a lot including file names, lines and even function inlining information
  • The tools they use are likely different. I found a bug in symbolic-debuginfo triggered by some very recent DLLs with oddly laid out but consistent CodeView directories

Been casually poking around the BlueSky/ATProto docs and blogs.

I think I’m now forced to wonder why they won’t “win” against mastodon and in turn ActivityPub.

Genuinely interested in what more qualified people have to say on this.

It feels like general criticisms of masto/Fedi have answers in their system and they’re well positioned for growth.

It feels like if they win the hearts of developers and big accnts, and scale well, it could be “over” quite quickly??

So I guess M3 Pro is a downgrade/sidegrade from the M2 Pro. Max is a nice upgrade from the old stuff.

As someone who doesn't care about GPU performance I'm slightly annoyed at having to spend the fancy GPU tax to get the better CPU.
