Watch for the BikeLoud sweeper in your neighborhood! Volunteers are cleaning up the bike lanes before you get any more flat tires. PBOT needs 2-3 weeks to get a sweeper to every bike lane and many protected bike lanes are difficult for most of their equipment.
#PBOT can't clean many of these lanes during the day with big sweepers that would get stuck in #pdxTraffic! Sweepers on #pdxBikes can be out here taking the edge off of it every day and make a safer ride for everyone in #Portland.
Two closures on Sunset Blvd due to trees today. Many of these streets should just be one-way or closed to thru car traffic from the beginning of the storm if not just for good. #pdxTraffic
Join me at @bikeloudpdx Hack Night online Thursday Jan 11th at 7pm for a presentation on a #pdxBikes / #pdxTraffic speed+count monitoring device development, and discussion of our other #tech and #OpenData projects. #Portland
#pdxtraffic backed up on Terwilliger because some drivers broke a traffic signal and #pbot doesn't know how to detour traffic at an earlier point that would handle the volume 🙄
I'm sure drivers getting a tiny bit of rain on their windshields is not the reason I'm hearing sirens. It's bikes that quit working at the first hint of rain, not cars right? #pdxTraffic#pdxTST
#Portland schools suffering the ineptitude of ted wheeler, episode 5693: sending 600 high-schoolers 11 miles (a 1hr bus ride) across town because the [checks notes...] SCHOOL building across the street has a different specific designation in the zoning database. Hello #transportation#policyFailure, #BusDriverShortage, #pdxTraffic good luck with that extra 500 cars on the road, apologies to 100 future inmates etc.
I'm not trying to vilify all #drivers here, just the ones with illegal license plate covers or missing front plate or who roll past the stop sign and half into the bike lane before looking, or those who are driving 5-10mph over the already egregious posted speed, or the ones who park in bike lanes and on sidewalks and honk too much and impatiently ride my tail while there's a fresh red light in front of me or those assholes who drive in the curb lane of an ODOT stroad when the left lane is open.
@Bman ONE WOULD THINK SO, but you're talking about an "orphan state highway" where people in #Portland are being killed with #pdxTraffic, by #ODOT#trafficEngineers (who just spent $3M in "safety money" reconfiguring an onramp about a mile back rather than a #BusLaneRoadDiet from downtown to Tigard) #BarburBlvd
"Better Naito" was not made wide enough. Just a dozen people on bikes was difficult to get through a single green cycle because half of the group has a length of hill to climb where the first half was and they can't get much tighter than 2-up because the width is miserly (yes ted I said miserly). #PBOT coulda used that money to make Cesar Chavez safe for #pdxBikes & moar #transit, besides having bike lanes on the repaved Hawthorne, spent millions downtown to expand i5 traffic 39 blocks east.
Much of the problem with Naito, is that the traffic signal cycles are trying to favor freeway traffic in/out of downtown, which is just #InducedDemand for more #pdxTraffic. It's like your city is expanding a freeway without building any new lanes, just opening all of #Portland to anyone with a car to drive through, with at least 50 thruway options for any trip, racking up a debt of crumbling surface streets and running people who bike off of the road while delaying the bus.

"Banning cars now would be like building cities in space and then banning spacesuits. We need to build places where people can actually live without cars." 🙄 uh, we already built those places and they have too many cars on them, then car apologists came & bulldozed more of it for free parking. Can we ban cars from #SchoolStreets?
I don’t understand the #bancars hashtag. I thought maybe it was just for shock value, but I think its users are just supremely out of touch.
We’ve spent the last 100 years building sprawl. Banning cars now would be like building cities in space and then banning spacesuits. We need to build places where people can actually live without cars. Advocate for that instead of being a self-righteous punk.
The Bureau and Budget Advisory Committee is having a hard time figuring out how to spend too much money on cars and then also somehow spend money we don't have on adding safety, staff treats the committee like a panel of fundraising advocates, total farce #VisionZero#Portland#pdxTraffic
