Hey PDX folks! What local organization(s) do you think is/are doing the most effective job at combating homelessness? I'd like to donate a portion of my new raise.
"Portland Cider Company’s Original Gold Cider received the best-in-class trophy at the International Brewing and Cider Awards yesterday in London. This is the first time in the competition’s 136-year history that a U.S. cidery has won."
Quick story about a #PDX neighbor. Was walking my dog this morning and passed by a man slumped on top of a bicycle on the ground sleeping. Checked to make sure he was alive; he looked dehydrated. Went back to give him food and water, check on him again. Then PPB rolled up us cuz some other neighbor called the cops on him. He was getting up, said he was ok, didn’t need medical. Cop took off thankfully, seeing he had food and water from me and was alert and able to carry on.
I'm at a conference at the federal courthouse, and as I drove here l observed cops (not in riot gear) on every corner surrounding Portland State University (the urban campus downtown), and schoolbuses pulling up in front of the Schnitz and also backing up traffic on the freeway nearby. Looks like they're about to roust the antiwar encampment, and expecting multiple arrests. #Portland#PDX
Absolute power and solidarity to the comrades holding down Camp Palestine at Portland State University. The love and support from these folks warms me like no other. I'm so inspired and deeply moved by the commitment, community, and power these friends wield. Please feel free to stop by and help with supplies if you can. Add your body if you can!
Hold the fort! From Chinook to Gaza, mobilize the Intifada!
Got myself a one-person feast at Desi Bites in #Beaverton! 😆🎉 They’re not “Abhiruchi level” (i.e. the best #Indian food in all of #PDX, except located in Vancouver WA) but I loved getting a bit of everything with their vegetarian thali which comes with a single bite of dessert - the perfect portion! The egg curry was a bit too sweet for me, but I’m coming back for #vegan sambar on Tuesdays!
(I went to see Monkey Man afterwards, which sadly contained 0% Indian food… but 500% Dev Patel! 🇮🇳🔥)
small occupation so far by the psu library, it'll no doubt grow through the night, and perhaps the weekend -- no megaphones as of 7:00pm, i hope they keep it that way!
Portland Pride 2024 is July 20-21, and GALDEF needs people like you who care about bodily autonomy!
The Genital Autonomy Legal Defense and Education Fund is looking for people passionate about bodily #autonomy to help staff the exhibitor booth. We will help you make a real world impact in the fight for #LGBTQIA bodily rights.
Portland's Street Books, a bicycle-powered library for unhoused folks, has a fundraising campaign going through the end of May. Here's a bit of the program's history, courtesy of Literary Hub.
Last night I learned that pistachios are related to mangos. On the tree they have a thin mango flavored fruit, and before roasting they taste like chickpeas.
Anyway, the seasonal pistachio loaf at Woodlawn Coffee is delicious!
