This graphic from the #BBC is telling. It shows the percentage that various income groups in the #UK pay in #tax. What can’t be overlooked is how much the #poorest end up paying as a percentage of their #income. So while the richest can boast how much they are contributing in absolute terms to government services, the poor are paying nearly as much as a percentage of their already meagre spending power.
#Emmer (MN), the #House maj whip, was elected as the #GOP pick on a 5th ballot in an internal race that drew 9 #Republicans. It’s not clear, however, that he has enough support to be elected on the House floor. To prevail, Emmer would need a majority of the full chamber.
Emmer, who has been in #Congress since 2015, previously chaired the #National Republican Congressional Cmte — the House campaign arm — for 4 yrs.
Despite the fact that #MikeJohnson is opposed to both #SocialSecurity & #Medicare / #Medicaid, he represents one of the #poorest congressional districts in the nation. Acc/to an analysis of U.S. #Census data by the Center for American Progress, >160k people in #Louisiana’s 4th Congressional District were living in #poverty in 2022. That’s about 22% of all district residents.
How any of Sanders’ edicts actually help her constituents is unknown. #Arkansas is the fourth #poorest state in the nation, with a mounting affordable #housingCrisis and massive #food#insecurity. A recent Scholaroo survey found the state ranks 49th in the nation for quality of life and 50th in the nation for quality of health.
Rather than fix those problems, Sanders wants to hide her movements from public view.
