Since I shared my net calories/weight graph over the past 8 weeks, I figured might as well illustrate what the average daily diet looked like over that last two week phase. It was a wedding leading into a long vacation so I planned for the heavy eating and drinking. Having tracked my food intake daily for over a decade I have it down to a science but the error bars get larger the more one eats out. That said the error in my estimated weight change over that interval was less than 0.25 pounds :). The yellow bar part of the pie chart is alcohol, on average 750 calories a day worth. That's essentially averaging 7-8 drinks a day, spaced out over a whole day so never getting plastered but still. Cholesterol and salt, not shown, were 3x recommended daily allowance. I am happy to be eating dialed into my target healthy diet again :0. #health #longevity #QuantifiedSelf

Good news/bad news...I finally found a scale to weigh myself on vacation to see if I've been accurate with my food logging and calorie burn estimation. I was within one pound of my estimates. Especially on the food logging the error bars go way up when on vacation, but I still make an effort. So being that close is great news. Bad news(ish) is that I'm on track to be up five pounds for the month of September. That is within the budget I gave myself for a bender of a month full of weddings, holidays, and vacations. Being on/under budget is good news too I suppose but I would have been happier if I were a bit under. I'm just not going to cut back on my feasting etc. to be under budget for no reason. It is a vacation after all :)

This story says less about Silicon Valley than America, where health is a privilege....

“the next phase of the quantified self movement, which started among Silicon Valley engineers and entrepreneurs who argued they could ‘bio-hack’ their way to extended longevity by making health decisions based on reams of personalized data.”

A friend who recently recovered from an injury just did a bit of running! And unfortunately, their personal data trackers have duplicated the data unhelpfully.

One is a smart wearable, a bracelet or watch or something, that they use to track heartrate. One is Strava (on their phone?) that helps them track distance, speed &tc.

They both reported, so now the canonical data repository thinks my friend did TWO runs.

Are there deduplication best practices for activity ?

I wore a religiously for years. I used various models over the years but I stopped with the Sense. It was just too heavy on my wrist and I haven't wanted to spend the money for another...

Kind of holding out for the temp tattoo that will take all of my vitals without requiring something bulky on my wrist.

Sometimes I do think about wearing it again...maybe I will. I like the data.

#Introduction

Hello world, I'm Je Sian. I am currently a Chemical Engineering (ChE) student in my fourth year.

I do some #coding as a hobby. Currently, I'm interested in doing data analysis related to #quantifiedself with my own data with #Python.

I joined #Calckey to be because I was interested in its features and seem to be one of the better platforms. Just having some support for Markdown and displaying equations has me hooked. I tried #Misskey but the majority of the content I see is Japanese.

I also like 🍨 ice cream, ☕ iced coffee, and 🍹 iced tea, in no particular order.
