In Germanic , Wieland the Smith is a crafty, disabled smith. Similar to , the Greek god of smiths, Wieland was lame because of violence directed at him. Wieland had learned smithing from the dwarves. He worked for the Danish king Níðung who, to prevent him from ever leaving, had him crippled by cutting his hamstrings. In revenge, Wieland killed the king's sons and raped the king's daughter Badhild before fleeing in a flying contraption he had built.

Zeus (Jupiter if you're Roman) isn't just the god of lightning! He's more like the god of the sky—but even that's misleading.

Some say he's exactly that feeling you get when you climb to the highest point, and look out on the land.

The sky is what orders the world, the good king orders the country, the good father orders the family, and consciousness orders the mind.

What all those things point to, THAT's Zeus.

I am ethically obligated to mention that the stories re: Zeus tell a different story than the one presented. Not so much a good king ruling over a happy people but a rapist, a thug...a bully. No offense to anyone.

How is one supposed to pronounce "Dunwich" (as in HPL's "The Dunwich Horror", or "the Dunwich Legacy")?

I always thought it was "dun-witch" but I just heard someone call it "dunnitch" and weirdly I never even thought to pronounce it like that - despite being from the UK where we have places like Norwich ("norritch"), Greenwich ("grennitch"), Woolwich ("woolitch"), Bromwich ("brommitch") and also Warwick ("warrick") and Chiswick ("chizzick") ... but then we also have Ipswich ("ips-witch"), Northwich ("north-witch"), Middlewich ("middle-witch") and of course Sandwich ("sand-witch").

So now my mind is blown. Which is right - "Dun-wich" or "Dunnitch"?!

Being the author in question was American, Dun- witch is probably more correct.

In Japanese folklore there is a tale about a shapeshifting kitsune known to trick people and leave them with their heads shaved. Two bold young men tried to outwit the mischievous fox but met the same fate. You can read the whole tale on my website at the link below.

The Japanese has several types of "demon fire"

  1. Will-o'-the-Wisps (Hitodama): Ethereal flames believed to be the souls of the deceased,

  2. **Kitsunebi (Fox Fire) Fox magic.

  3. Tengu no Hi (Tengu's Fire): fire that Tengu use to bewilder or lead people astray.

  4. Ame no Hi (Heavenly Fire): Fire associated with deities or celestial beings,

  5. Hi no Tama (Fire Balls): Spherical flames that are sacred.

I had AI write this:

...the intense similarities between America and Ancient Rome, where both societies were built on the foundation of slavery. Just as Rome expanded its empire through conquest, America too has exerted its influence across the globe. Moreover, both civilizations have witnessed the rise of a wealthy elite, forming a plutocracy that has shaped their respective histories.

( and the empire doesn't stop there)

Interestingly, the ghoul is a monster more defined by its eating habits than its species. It haunts cemeteries, feasting on corpses, but depending on the story, the ghoul may be classified as undead, a demon, a degraded human, or a separate humanoid species.

A study on from 2020 is now peer-reviewed and published. The study gave $7500 cash to homeless people in Vancouver and compared their outcome versus a control group. The result was clear:

“The recipients of the cash transfers did not increase spending on drugs, tobacco, and alcohol, but did increase spending on food, clothes, and rent, according to self-reports. What’s more, they moved into stable housing faster and saved enough money to maintain financial security over the year of follow-up.”

Further, each person who moved into stable housing one year faster saves the city over $8000 per year, which makes this program cheaper than existing housing programs.

Universal Basic Income works. It sounds so obvious when you say it out loud, but: giving people cash lifts them out of poverty. We need to do that more.

“A Canadian study gave $7,500 to homeless people. Here’s how they spent it.”

In mermaids are known as ningyo. Unlike European mermaids, they look more like fish than humans and are considered far more monstrous than beautiful. In some cases they are believed to foretell the future. Their flesh is said to give eternal life, but most people won't take the risk as ningyo can put powerful curses on those who try to catch or kill them. To be safe, it is best to do whatever you can to avoid any encounters with ningyo.

The letter will not be on notebook paper. It will come hand delivered on authentic parchment with burns around the edges like a pirate map. The messenger will calmly wait for recompense and will skip away merrily envisioning the sweet meats and candies he will buy for his efforts.
