BigMikeInAustin,

Only listen if a non-phish fan tells you not to listen?

BigMikeInAustin,

I’d run this program on the Holodeck.

BigMikeInAustin,

Cool! I didn’t know the command for searching times. Using the menus is not great. I’ll use this for finding old news articles.

BigMikeInAustin,

We let corporations take over without limit or recourse.

Walmart pays a wage to people whose job it is to help other Walmart employees apply for government assistance. That’s way cheaper to Walmart than paying people more. Then the government assistance comes from the lower 90% who do pay taxes.

Minimum wage hasn’t been raised in decades. It has increased a bit only in a few places.

Over half (guesstimate) of prepared food workers do not have a steady income. They rely on a few customers to tip. And very rarely have any sick time or vacation time or health benefits.

You’ve eaten food that has been handled by someone sick with a fever because they were highly discouraged from staying home sick.

BigMikeInAustin,

The benefits of incorporating in a Republican state: We can say none of our employees is on government assistance. (That’s because our state doesn’t have government assistance.)

BigMikeInAustin,

Texas Republican governors have specifically rejected free money from the federal government that is supposed to go to healthcare and unemployment and education.

The current Texas governor has specifically told state employees to avoid federal money grants because there might be “woke” requirements to using the money.

BigMikeInAustin,

You’re right, many people worked hard and tirelessly to prevent this. And we’d be even worse off without the work of those caring people.

BigMikeInAustin,

Ok, bye.

BigMikeInAustin,

I haven’t used Whatsapp Groups. This says the analysis is from looking at who is in a group, so just metadata, not contents of messages.

That sounds like a normal marketing technique, though I don’t know how hard or easy it is to get a list of users in a group.

And also a phone number is Whatsapp is easy to lookup in Facebook and tie to a real person.

It’s all plausible without breaking into Whatsapp. But that doesn’t disprove inside information.

BigMikeInAustin,

Climbing up and down a ladder seems like a lot more work than just stairs. And I complain about stairs. Plus you can’t travel with anything handheld using a ladder.

BigMikeInAustin,

So many answers will be a poop knife or put a sock on it.

BigMikeInAustin,

The new game will be to see how fast you can get OpenAI to compare something to Hitler.

BigMikeInAustin,

The FTC is not taking specific action against any automaker at this point. Instead, the blog post is meant to be a warning to the industry.

So, the only thing that will change will either be a tiny EULA on the underside of the car, or car companies will hire better security teams to keep the data collection hidden.

BigMikeInAustin,

These days companies see fines as just a little fee for doing business.

We’ve seen fines for other companies.

Worst case, they have to.pay, what. 10% of their earnings back as fines? That’s still definitely worth it to them.

BigMikeInAustin,

Not even an apology. They’ll spend money smearing the FTC leader. And call it a witch hunt. And publicize all the people who will lose their jobs if the company has to pay these fines.

And they are hedging their bets that Trump becomes president and the FTC gets gutted, so there won’t be any fines anyway.

BigMikeInAustin, (edited )

If your faster computer now requires you, yourself, to move faster, then relative to you, the new computer might run at the old speed, or slower. Hmm.

What is a good eli5 analogy for GenAI not "knowing" what they say?

I have many conversations with people about Large Language Models like ChatGPT and Copilot. The idea that “it makes convincing sentences, but it doesn’t know what it’s talking about” is a difficult concept to convey or wrap your head around. Because the sentences are so convincing....

BigMikeInAustin,

Hey, but at least there aren’t any more foreigners simultaneously using up all the social benefits from their couch and also taking everyone’s job, right?

Well, imagine how bad it would be if an outside government (The European Union) was directing this movement of goods between many countries. Only the UK knows how to keep life moving best for UK citizens.

BigMikeInAustin,

development slowed considerably after people returned to offices that had been empty due to the covid pandemic and after a number of key employees left.

I wonder if those two things are related. Hmm.

Also, the return to office was a conscious and forced decision with lots of evidence against it, so boo hoo.

BigMikeInAustin,

That’s pretty brave and courageous of all those who resigned. This is how you lead and make changes.

BigMikeInAustin,

Isn’t it destroying everyone’s future, unless you’re ultra rich?
