How do you measure percieved software quality?

@daniel It‘s hard to measure an abstract concept like software quality. But most of the time it‘s a complex consideration between performance for the task that it should perform, dark patterns and otter things I don‘t appreciate in my software and the history of the software / who makes it. Also depending on if I should evaluate it after using it for many years or if I‘m looking at it to determine if I want to use it, other peoples opinion, praises and criticisms…

@daniel Sometimes I give plus points for features I don’t actively use, but like the idea of. For macOS application AppleScript support comes to mind e.g.

@piko Ich würde gerade von einem Bekannten auf deinen Python Kurs und dabei insbesondere auf die letzte Folge über Markdown und HedgeDoc hingewiesen. Und ich wollte mich für die lieben Worte zu HedgeDoc bedanken.
Ich weiß nicht ob das relevant ist für deine Studis, aber technisch gesehen ist das mit den Noten etwas dass nur (also vermutlich) HedgeDoc kann. Für alle anderen wäre das nur ein Codeblock mit abc-Code. Vermutlich ist das auch nicht so wichtig, ich wollte es nur mal angemerkt haben…

@ruhrscholz As far as I understand most “modern” CPUs are full of complicated features and strange backwards compatibility issues, so I’m not sure if going with something clean and new is not the better approach, especially if it is never intended to run on the real CPU anyway…

Pondering whether to move my secrets to a .

Pro:
• stored safely on protected hardware
• secret "cannot" be extracted
• can access TOTP codes from an untrusted device, e.g. if my phone's battery is empty

Con:
• backing up the secrets is "not possible"
• having a second YubiKey for redundancy is recommended, but both need to be present when setting up a new secret (or you need to store a copy of the secret somewhere else)
• only has 32 slots (but I only have 23 TOTPs atm)

@scy As someone who started using one recently: Some applications want you to register a Authenticator App first, before you’re ever allowed to use the YubiKey, which I found rather unfortunate…

Comparing Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim user interface you can tell that Skyrim tries too much to be minimalistic. Oblivion had custom icons for everything, spells, items, and attributes. On top of that the UI had a ton of flair. Too bad this is all lost in Skyrim.
