I’ve been in a good mood today.

Today is the first day in over a year that I haven’t used Mastodon.

No, I’m not saying that Mastodon is “bad” and made me miserable. In fact, Mastodon freed me from Big Social, and for that I’m thankful.

But it’s also true that Mastodon is kind of limiting. And well, I kind of want to spread my wings and fly.

Actually, it’s a compliment to Mastodon that I can still talk to Mastodon while using another service that gives me more joy.

If Mastodon was a walled garden service, I wouldn’t be able to do this.

Dustin4,

@atomicpoet & the good thing about it is, I don’t even have to know/care that you’re using a different fediverse service to interact with you.

I know the /AT devs & Dorsey (mostly Dorsey) keep saying that “Bluesky” is essentially a proof of concept and will (if all works according to plan) cease to exist once blossoms.

But…

I don’t believe that. I feel the OG server & native clients will be cemented and always be somewhat of a default.

someone said the signal to noise ratio is better on mastodon, I agree. so much candy posting in Bs - fun I guess but im still hungry. until they figure out how to scale up its kinda an echo chamber in there

Dustin4,

@seachanger

Yeah, they definitely need to onboard some more folks because the sPosting is getting kinda repetitive. It needs more people from different realms to broaden the scope a bit.

They keep saying they care more about launching federation than scaling the og server. But they need do both.

“It’s not fair to compare to Mastodon because Mastodon has been around for years and Bluesky has just been released.”

Actually, Bluesky has been in development since 2019.

That means it’s 3 years younger than Mastodon, and 1 year younger than ActivityPub’s validation by the W3C.

There’s also the matter of BlueSky receiving $13 million in funding while Mastodon receives $32,000/month from Patreon.

All things considered, it’s @Gargron who’s the underdog here.

Dustin4,

@atomicpoet this is the point that I’ve said makes Mastodon so impressive.

Built with soup cans and dental floss compared to BlueSky/ATs backing

  • Dustin4,

@ry and it’s definitely not more accessible. It’s just more familiar. ≠

I like being on both and fully admit that.

    Dustin4,

@ry I love the post-Elon mastodon folks (of which I am) drawing narratives that AP/Mastodon wasn’t vibing literal years before we got here and is therefore in “danger” of becoming an “also ran” in the race to replace the bird.

Bluesky is going to skyrocket to mainstream popularity and actually replace Twitter, and Mastodon cannot, because Bluesky is being designed to be simple, fun, and — most importantly — easy to understand.

Bus frequency and ease of use always trumps fare-free rides. Even the lowest of income folks in the city have said that time after time. Council is making a grave mistake.

The K. St. Project should not only continue forward. But should be even more robust and anti-car than it’s already drawn up to be.

The obvious next step for Twitter is to announce that if you subscribe to Blue no one will be able to block you

    Dustin4,

@caseynewton that’s definitely on a dry erase board somewhere in that building.

Metatext doesn’t work quite as well as I remember. Any recommendations for iPhone?

    Dustin4,

    @dell

Here’s why. The dev of metatext has ceased operations on the app due to health complications so the app hasn’t been updated in a while and is starting to break:

Won't link it because of their paywall, but the Washington Post has a story today about over on Twitter:

"Frustrated users on Twitter are taking up arms against accounts with blue check marks and blocking them en masse in an effort they’re calling ."

"Shortly after the hashtag took off, Twitter on Friday suspended the @Blocktheblue account."
