The removal of the tomatoes from the greenhouse benches gives us room to get the first planting of sweetcorn (Flagler) started. We put 5 seeds to a pot and 32 pots make a row. Once those are big enough and the weather warm enough they will get set out in to a row and another planting will be started. We try to have 2 weeks between plantings to extend the season. Last year we brought ~ 230 ears of corn to the table.

Overhead view of some 4 inch plastic pots with potting mix showing 5 corn seeds placed on top, ready to be pushed in and covered.
A ten inch tall, light brown teddy bear in green overalls sits looking directly at the camera. He is holding a beet in his right paw. There is a bunch of beets embroidered on the bib of his overalls. He sits looking over 32 - 4 inch pots that are 6 inches deep. They are filled with potting mix and each pot has 5 corn seeds set on top ready to be pushed in and covered. In background can be seen the walls of a greenhouse.

Wow, that's impressive!
I learned a hard lesson last year when hardly any cobs were filled with corn kernels. For this year, I know that planting them in one row isn't the right way!
You seem to have some experience with growing corn, though!

Is there a exchange community or group on Mastodon?

I have some chives and green onions that are going to seeds and I will have more seeds than I need.

Of course, there is our local free seeds and plants library but I would prefer to use mastodon as my main seeds resource.

I'd love to participate, but I'm afraid that we 're too far apart. I'm in the North West of Germany. Where are you?

My dear husband @gpumoto got bored after having built the handicapped bathroom for my café, so he ordered some wood for his new workshop.
Getting that big pile of wood into the hall was a bit of a challenge, but with some wiggeling and a lot of expertise, Gray got it done!
The advantage of living in an industrial zone is having all sorts of building companies nearby!

To the right, you can see our little electric car, in the middle a heavy and long pile of wood covered in sturdy plastic foil and my husband's standing in the doorway of our hall bringing in the pile with the help of our pallet jack.
The big pile of wood has made it into the hall.
Voilà, our delivery of wood!

I currently have a similar situation: I'm waiting for zucchini and cucumbers, but what has come up so far? Tomatoes! 😉

Here is a fascinating video that will show you how to grow food in a container garden.

And the best thing to use as a growing medium is your homemade compost.

It would be easy to grow herbs, tomatoes, peppers, beans, or carrots in a container. The list is long.

The tomatoes are sprouting! This growth happened literally overnight -- when I went to bed nothing was peeking out above the soil, and when I woke up they were half a finger high.

Nature is amazing, and is quickly becoming an obsession.

Mint will be the easiest, I think , but beware: If you don't want it to take over your garden, then give it a root boundary or grow it in a (large) container.
Don't get discouraged should something not work (right away). Many factors influence a positive outcome: rain, heat, drought, soil, wind, the seed quality and pests. But it's soooo wonderful to being able to pick your own breakfast/lunch/dinner in the ! 🥰

Here is a good video from Charles Dowding that explains to you how to get ready for spring.

He explains how he does his potting mix with homemade compost, wood chips compost, and worm compost. I can't stress enough the importance of making your compost for seedlings and how to use it to prepare your beds for spring
