Taylor Hackford on Louis Gossett Jr, explaining the role of Master Sergeant Foley, was written as a white man.

When I visited the Navy Officers Flight Training Center in Pensacola, FL, I discovered that many of the Drill Instructors there were men of color. I found it interesting that Black & Brown enlisted men had make-or-break control over whether white college graduates would become officers and fighter pilots. At that moment I changed the casting profile for Sergeant Foley and started meeting actors of color. Lou Gossett came to see me. I knew and admired his stage work. He told me that he'd served in the US Army as a Ranger, so in addition to being an accomplished actor, he knew military life. I hired him on the spot. Lou Gossett’s Sergeant Foley may have been the first Black character in American cinema to have absolute authority over white characters. The Academy recognized his consummate performance by voting him an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. He definitely deserved it.

Wow.

Trafalgar's last poll was almost spot on.

Trump: 59%
Haley: 38%

So far, with 92% of the vote in, Trump is at 59.9% and Haley has 39.4%.

Her numbers may be slightly higher because of Democrats showing up to vote in the open primary. I heard that it could be 4%.

Trafalgar. Didn't see that coming.

"One imagines that Nikki Haley and Liz Cheney, both shrewd realists who genuinely recognize the Trump threat, are unlikely to delude themselves into believing they’d function as anything other than spoilers."

Nikki Haley does not recognize Donald Trump as being a bigger threat than Joe Biden.

That is the problem.

Haley needs to go down. And not in a Lauren Boebart way.

"In short, Gephardt pointed out, a third-party bid could never succeed on its own; it would mostly take votes away from Biden. Manchin absorbed the argument, the person says, and then expressed an acute worry: Above all, Manchin said emphatically, he did not want to become the person who handed the presidency to Trump.

That argument finally seemed to prevail with Manchin last week, when he announced that he will not be part of any third-party ticket after all."

Well, thank you, Richard Gephardt. Both for talking sense to Manchin and being a person Manchin trusted.

"She has such a horrible track record of constantly lying and backtracking on her previous positions that maybe she won't actually follow through on her policy proposals," said Andrew Chang, 21. "Either way, no matter which way you look at it, she's a bad candidate."

Nikki Haley is having a hard time connecting with young voters. And the young people in the article? Not Democrats.

Talking with my mother yesterday about how no-fault divorce is going to be targeted. She starting asking questions about how one would get divorced, and then asked what this group intended to do about domestic violence as that surely would be grounds for divorce.

My answer was simple: domestic violence would be eliminated. That, too, goes back to the Good Ol' Days.

In what will be a daily reminder, .

Nikki Haley is attacking Biden. Efforts to say that she is better than Trump legitimize her attacks on Biden.

Haley is not Never Trump. Haley is not Never Trumpism.

Haley is a threat to Biden, to Democrats, to the efforts to protect and restore the rights that the alt-right Christian nationalists are targeting.

Haley is a threat.

In October 2020, fertility doctors spoke out against Amy Coney Barrett.

The hand-wringing of GOP women shocked that their pro-life stance included IVF is disgusting.

It is basically them saying, "Wait! These restrictions aren't supposed to hurt me!"

They were warned. They didn't care.

"Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, Trump’s last major primary challenger, sided with the Alabama Supreme Court in a Wednesday interview with NBC News, saying “Embryos, to me, are babies.” A day later, she told CNN she did not want to shut down IVF treatments and that “Alabama needs to go back and look at the law.”"

Haley is useless.

"Eric Johnston, a lawyer who helped draft Alabama's constitutional language on abortion in 2018, told the BBC: "By and large the pro-life community would say that fertilised eggs are in need of protection."
But he acknowledged there were couples with anti-abortion views who had used IVF to have children, and said he would never condemn them.
"It's a dilemma, and a dilemma is something where you don't have a satisfactory answer," he added."

That's going to be my answer for all things now. It's a dilemma, and a dilemma where we don't have a satisfactory answer.

Except voting them out.

Thinking about the Alabama Supreme Court decision.

There has to be a group of people who are in shock that their votes for pro-life policies mean that they might not become parents or grandparents.

One of the implications of the decision is that doctors can only make one embryo at a time, and that embryo must be transferred no matter the quality. If the cycle fails, the process must start again.

"Each transfer requires months’ worth of expensive medication, including injectable, both before and after the procedure. And each failed cycle requires the patient to start all over again. Most states (including Alabama) do not require insurance to cover IVF, and each cycle can cost up to $30,000."

https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2024/02/abortion-bans-alabama-ivf-explained.html

Even if someone in Alabama had insurance that covered IVF, I highly doubt that insurance would cover the procedure if done out of state.

South Carolina's primary is Saturday. Democrats are being asked to cross-over and vote for Nikki Haley to save democracy.

Nikki Haley announced today that she supports the Alabama Supreme Court decision that IVF embryos are babies.

She may not be as crazy as Trump. She may not be besties with Putin. The woman is still a danger.

The true threat of Nikki Haley:

Democrats are being asked to support a candidate who just said that while Trump is bad, Biden is worse.

The pleas to cross-over and support her to save democracy are ridiculous given that she will vote for Trump to save the country from Biden.

The people who are encouraging Democrats to crossover and vote for her are fools, grifters, or complicit in trying to unravel democracy.

Nikki Haley's speech:

"There are those who will try and paint me as Never Trump. That's not who I am. Never have been.

I supported Trump in 2016 and in 2020. I was proud to serve America in his cabinet.

My purpose has never been to stop Trump at all costs."

And there it is. She's going to vote for Trump in the general election.

This story.

Whoa.

"If therapy fails, judges can order families to send their children to a reunification camp — a more intensive, often multi-day treatment that can cost anywhere between $15,000 and $40,000...

Most camps utilize private transport services to forcibly take kids from their home if the parent with custody does not comply with the court order."

I was not expecting that.
