👋Hi, I'm Aaron, nice to meet you!
📽️ I (sometimes) make videos on the internet that vaguely resemble good content.
📸 I also sometimes do little photography experiments.
🐧Of course I run Linux, it's in the name :)
🦣 I wanted to try out Mastodon about 2 years ago, and I ended up here. Never used Birdsite!

Stop letting Brother steal your money with expensive refills!!! :ablobcatattention:
(They may not do it with printers, but they sure do love to scam you with label printer refills)

Embossing label makers still exist, and they're cheap as dirt. :ablobcatbongo:

I found a company on Amazon that sells assortments of resistors, capacitors, diodes, transistors, ICs, screws, nuts, standoffs, and a whole load of other things in these really neat boxes. :blobwizard:
I wish more companies sold their small part assortments like this... :ablobcatwave:

Yes that is RGB on an "official" Atari product.
I will take no further questions.

I recently watched a performance of Shakespeare's Othello (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XAuqkY6kQhU) and wondered if anybody had done an in-depth OPSEC postmortem on the play. :blobcatthink:
It feels like the kind of thing that someone on the internet definitely should've made, but I couldn't find anything. :blobcatgooglyshrug:
The internet has failed us once again... :blobcat_thisisfine:

:blobwizard: You don't need a $1000 camera or an hour of traveling to take a good Aurora photo.
:ablobcatbongo: You need a tripod, patience, and a decent point and shoot that with a manual mode and RAW output.
:ablobcatwave: Set the exposure time to "forever", the ISO to "grainy" and the F-stop to "eyes dilated at optometrist."
:blobcatsanta: This one was taken in the Chicago suburbs with a tripod and a Canon PowerShot S100 at ISO 80, F2.0, and 15 second exposure, then processed in RawTherapee.

Cons of being an at will employee:
You can be fired any time (not if it's discriminatory ofc) :blobcatsurprised:

Pros of being an at will employee:
Two-week notices aren't mandatory; you can just leave whenever :blobcathyper:

"Some people are so eager for a shortcut that they don't care who gets exploited or left behind along the way. It's easier to remain ignorant, always."
"And yet... we can care about each other! It's a thing we're allowed to do. In a sense, it's the only power we have."

Design is simply engineering whose chief priorities do not lie solely in function or performance.

Good design is good engineering.

 Instead of angering Nintendo, you all could be archiving everything on https://library.kiwix.org/ instead.

Y'know, for when the internet goes to heck and you don't want to go to the library and use an encyclopedia or (heaven forbid) look up developer documentation in a book. :blobcat0_0:

:blobcatrainbow: And if you really want to play games, why not try out https://flashpointarchive.org/

:blobcatgooglytrash: Congratulations USA, instead of actually enacting comprehensive privacy regulations, you've banned TikTok, setting a dangerous precident of censorship and infringement of our rights. :blobcat_thisisfine:

I dislike TikTok, but the "ban TikTok" bill seems way too similar to those "surveil the entire internet" bills for me to endorse it.

I just feel like it might be setting a bad precedent, and I would rather deal with TikTok than the possibility of a complete banning of encryption...

Back on Xfce temporarily...
It's absolutely one of my 2 favorite DEs, but I can't recommend it unless you're ok with quite a bit of fiddling to get it to look good.

(see my previous post for some context on what it looks like by default)

:xfce: Almost everybody I see recommending Xfce seems to throw in some disclaimer to the effect of, "It looks kinda ugly by default, but it's really easy to theme."

 I definitely agree with that; customizing Xfce is fantastic and incredibly simple, however, it shouldn't be something anyone has to do.
Why hasn't the default look of Xfce changed?
