Those were OpenAI employees cheering at their Spring update, right? What is it with the US and fake corporate excitement? It's the same vibe as Apple employees cheering and high-fiving conference attendees.

@tonyarnold it's so bad!

There's an apple ad for the ipad where a concrete ceiling crushes a whole bunch of musical instruments, paint, and other art-related things, then reveals a thin ipad at the end.

It made me physically ill to watch. Destroying musical instruments is disgusting, like burning books.

Our lawnmower's battery charger stopped working over the weekend. $200 for a new one, which is like 1/3 of a lawnmower. Ugh.

I ordered the weird screwdriver to open the case for $7, watched a 20 min YouTube with someone debugging a similar model. I was able to take it apart and solder back together a component that had come loose. 💅 It's been up and working for 20 minutes with no explosions or even bad smells.

Being willing to attempt to repair stuff is such a superpower. YouTube is amazing. ✌🏻

I'm intersted in buying a drawing tablet for some blender stuff and had the following thought: hey I have an old iPad Pro and an apple pencil, maybe I can use that?

All of the advice online is that it's possible but it's a miserable slog and never quite works well enough :/

@helge @Migueldeicaza @PadraigOCinneide Blender is phenomenal, genuinely one of the best pro UIs I've ever used.

With the exception of Barack Obama, the same generation has been running the US since the early 90s and they're gunna keep going for at least another 4 years.

Wow, that's a new one. I just found CR2032 batteries that are incompatible with AirTags…

The bevel shape of the negative side is too curved, and it misses the power contacts on the AirTag.

@brunoph Do they have a bitterant on them? I bought some which initially didn't work, but once I washed the coating off with warm water, they worked great!

@Cykelero I'm using ray casting to find the location on the board where a line from the camera through the mouse hits a tile, then I'm comparing distances to each of that tile's vertexes to find the closest one. Godot helps a lot with the ray casting part, and has a nice distance function.

Since the board is pretty static, I could have just made a bunch of invisible settlements with big collision areas instead, but I wanted to figure it out more like a programmer.

I'm having fun laying out some UI in Godot and it does so much so well. I'm a beginner with this thing and I am much more productive than I would be with Swift UI, which I have spent considerable time learning.

Here are a few thoughts on what makes Godot better:

  1. Using visual tools to build visual things. You build up a node tree visually and configure properties, not code. All the nodes are in a list and all the properties are right there in an inspector, there’s no auto-complete roulette or googling to figure out what a node does.

@krzyzanowskim Ah I remember this, it is looks really nice. If I find myself writing SwiftUI again I'll give it a whirl.

Took me a while (👀) but I was able to follow this https://x.com/MajorMcDoom/status/1747121056555446353?s=20 and get a pretty nice looking water shader working.

How do people sell furniture online in 2024?

Craigslist got no replies, FB Marketplace has been 100% scammers replying, and OfferUp is somehow right in the middle.

My long gradual drift away from feeling at home in the Apple ecosystem has become more of an urgent need to escape lately. This year i'm going to work towards becoming self-sufficient (or at least employable) doing computer things that Apple has no control over. I'm excited!

So far, I've been learning how to make games and how to do some basic 3d modelling in Blender and it's been wonderful.

I don't know where I will end up but i read this quote about writing and it's my new mantra: "Writing a novel is like driving a car at night. You can see only as far as your headlights, but you can make the whole trip that way."

I'm on the lookout for ways that I can contribute to both Apple-driven and community Swift projects — if you've got starter tasks, undocumented code, or would just like a helping hand, please let me know!

@tonyarnold if you have any interest in open api the generator that @hd worked on is pretty well tagged with starter tasks etc

On a multiscreen setup, I find it easier to use two distinct browser apps, Safari single window, fullscreen showing the main thing I'm referencing, and then Arc in a normal window for all my tabs.

I wish Apple would take a run at making multi-monitor fullscreen stuff work intuitively on macOS, it's been confusing for over a decade now :/
