There should be a commandline app to render a webpage to a pdf using and then view with your viewer of choice. :P

People who use their speakerphones in public are the worst.

Less annoying, TBH. It's that tinny speakerphone sound that drives me nuts

I thought most of Europe had adopted a 36-hour work week

RL_Dane,

@sotolf

That sucks. IIRC there's evidence that 36 hours is just as productive as 40.

Even the baddest of LimeWire and KaZaA spywares could have only dreamt of being as nasty as today's genuine operating systems and browsers are straight out of the box - and people even pay to get them!

Google I/O just got a little more exciting..

@bayton Looks pretty cool, but $1,700 is just astronomical.

RL_Dane,

@bayton
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 is $1,799.
I think the original fold was something like $2,000 or $2,200

The prices probably won't come down until someone like ZTE makes a cheap one.

I was excited because I'd love to have a folding phone with a FOSS/Private ROM, but I guess it'll have to wait another half decade or so to become affordable ;)

My Pixel 4a 5G (baby Pixel 5a? ;) is still running strong with , so I don't think I'm going to need to upgrade until 2025 or a little before.

If they knocked a grand off that price, I'd be tempted to upgrade early, though 😝

RL_Dane,
@RL_Dane@fosstodon.org avatar

@bayton

lol, wow XD

The only phone I've kept for that short a time span was a janky Blackberry (weird T9-style blackberry, not a REAL blackberry) that I gave to a friend after a few months and a SUPER janky BLU phone that I recycled with impunity after a year ;)

My current record is either my iPhone 4 or my incredibly cursed green iPhone 5c, both a little over 3 years ;)

Using a FOSS ROM really helps cut down on the creeping slowdown. My Pixel 4a was getting noticeably slow within a year.

Any smaller project is going to be behind Google by a week or two (you'd have to look up their releases to know exactly how far). I'm not terribly worried about it, because I mainly use F-Droid apps. The benefit is a slimmer OS and a very usable firewall that doesn't require the VPN loopback hack to work. If you go the route (or any FOSS android OS), hit me up for some app recommendations, because the stock AOSP apps are pretty long in the tooth.

So, I finally got around to installing Professional Edition in a virtual machine and chose the lightest options possible throughout the install process. It still forces 7 apps into the pinned apps portion of the start menu which were completely unsolicited. They can be uninstalled, but still...

Did I mention this was the Professional Edition?

On a good note, the UI strikes the perfect balance between and . We could use a desktop environment like this in .

vs. (Todo.TXT)

Sound off!

I've been using my own system which is mainly just $EDITOR and a script that takes out completed tasks every day by grepping out lines that begin with "X "
The problem is that it would be nice to just see a couple most important tasks at a time, instead of having a blood-chilling text file FULL of todo items in your face all day 😅

RL_Dane,
@RL_Dane@fosstodon.org avatar

@benjaminhollon

Wow, that's super complex. So your commandline task list syncs with your phone via some version of WebDAV?
I'd probably just use syncthing, like everything else.

RL_Dane,
@RL_Dane@fosstodon.org avatar

@jbowen

That's where I'm at, but I'm getting to the point where I'd like to easily filter the tasks I see to make it a little less stressful ;)

I think I'm leaning towards Todo.TXT, because the format and syntax are pretty simple, and there's an android app for it.

RL_Dane,
@RL_Dane@fosstodon.org avatar

@mmeier

Oops, I always get those two mixed up XD

That's ok, I think I'm leaning towards todo.txt for now.
If I find it limiting, I'll switch to taskwarrior

I've been curious about the Boox line.

I've got a ReMarkable 2, but the lack of backlight kinda stinks, and the company is copping a ReMarkably Apple-like attitude, which I'm not cool with.

It is a custom Linux OS that allows sideloading, though.
