I took my students on a class trip today. Even though they live insanely difficult lives, they were able to enjoy the day with childlike joy.

Me: Thank you. That’s very sweet. I don’t know why.

S: Because we do so many things wrong and you never leave us or threaten to retire.

M: (choking up)You all do so many things RIGHT! Every day is a new day. I get to watch all of you grow. I’m pretty lucky.

S: We’re lucky. Can I have a snack?

M: (laughing) You’re slick! And yeah, you can have a snack.

May 9th, 2016 is a day that changed me forever. Every anniversary brings me anxiety & my PTSD rears its ugly head. But, I made it through today. I’ll take this small win.

I make sure my kitchen sink is completely cleared before I go to bed. Then when I wake up, I get upset that in the middle of the night my kids left the sink full of dishes.

For some reason I take pictures of the messy sink. What am I planning on doing with these pics…I have no idea, but it makes me feel better.
