What dnd races are required?

I'm making a new setting. The mistake I felt I made last time was trying to devise an orgin from whole cloth for each playable race, which wasted a TON of time and energy while also confusing my players. So, herein I wish to ask: What playable races would you miss, if you joined my table and noticed their absence?

Humans, dwarves, halflings, orcs, goblinoids, and elves will all stay, but I am not sure about all the others.

Why does everyone talk about the weather shortly after greeting each other?

@JeremyMallin @actuallyautistic it's an extension of the router noises. The greetings are establishing that they see you as a reasonable person to talk to, the small talk is about finding something you have in common with them so you can transition from that into the actual conversation. What does everyone have in common? We all have some opinion on the weather.

Of course, sometimes what small talk is actually about is making conversation so you don't have to stand in silence by yourself.

I've decided to go with for organization and notes for the game I'm planning. I went with it over because Notion is less hassle to sync and work with between my tablet and my laptop. I'm still using Obsidian for things where it's fine for it to live only on my laptop.

@joshsusser you really summed up all the reasons I distrust these sorts of things in a way I never consciously put together. But to respond to the "not a team player" list thing, everyone here (and the parents) likes and appreciates me. Work culture is fantastic now that our toxic boss quit, and everyone here likes working here.

Still going to hop jobs in a few weeks, though. They don't pay shit lol

I cannot believe that I have not seen this scientific study before now. I have gone my whole life believing that parachutes save lives, but this controversial research has overturned consensus on this. I am now convinced that parachutes are a waste of money. To show my support for this idea, I will be jumping out of a plane without a parachute to show that it is perfectly safe!

That fun @actuallyautistic moment where you get back together with an old special interest that you couldn't get properly stuck in with as a kid because you didn't have time, money, or a proper workspace for the tools you don't have. But now, as an adult, you also don't have the time, money, or proper workspace either.

It's like getting back together with an ex, even though you know things still aren't going to work out.

    Is ProtonVPN worth it?

    Got reminded of this while reading about ProtonMail. The reason I haven't gotten into proper #piracy is that I don't have a VPN for torrenting, and the reason I don't have a VPN is that I don't #torrent. So it would be nice if I got a good VPN while #degoogling myself.

    Will ProtonVPN rat me out to Comcast? I know some VPNs don't hide what you're downloading from your ISP, for reasons I don't fully understand.

    @starlord2014 wish Mullvad had an email service lol. I have looked into them previously and they do seem like the most trustworthy overall.
    But then i get to the checkout and have a moment where I think "why am I doing this? I don't torrent!" And then I never go through with it, which means I don't get into torrenting, etc. And the cycle goes on

    @thantik yeah that was me. I prefer to keep my Mastodon stuff and Lemmy stuff separate. What happened was that I initially posted this from Lemmy, realized I would rather post this from Mastodon, and deleted the first one so there wouldn't be duplicates. I wasn't trying to gaslight you and you didn't do anything wrong.

    @zozo @ttrpgs I mean, the actual stuff in it isn't anything we haven't seen before. Sure, if you start to awaken as a kid and get some psych help, they will put you on so many antipsychotics that you will be a walking coma patient. Sure, the nobility make skinsuits by scooping out the soul of a human. But what made it traumatizing for me was the fact that it presented this info in bits and pieces while keeping a sunny, colorful glamour and keeping the wonder-ful parts of the setting in focus.

    @Griff One thing that I really liked as an was that there is a psychologist that is like Andrew Wakefield for the changelings. I forget his name, but he wants a "changeling disorder" to be listed in the DSM so he can cure them of being a fairy. Thankfully he has been laughed out of the psychology profession for believing in fairies.
