Nothing makes me feel like a robot more than watching comedy classics.
I just don't get it. I don't get why Blazing Saddles is funny and not just sad. I don't get why violence, discrimination and farts elict laughter in this context.

I feel like I need to sit down with a "normal" human and have them explain every scene and what the comedic elements are and what ppl are laughing at.

Also the gum scene? Do not understand it all. Why is it funny??

Shkshkshk,
@Shkshkshk@dice.camp avatar

@PMscenarios I think the main thing giving you problems here is that the humor in that movie is candy-coating a very heavy discussion about racism. You reacting to it as deeply sad and upsetting is, to some extent, what the writers and director intended.

There is a genre of video on the internet that involves competitive improv swing dancing:

Get matched up with a partner, lock into an intimate position while waiting to hear what song you get, start sexy dancing in front of a hooting audience immediately.

Those competitions have got to be bigger fuckfests than the Olympics, right?

Shkshkshk,
@Shkshkshk@dice.camp avatar

@Cassandra actually surprisingly no. Chemistry on the competitive dance floor doesn't translate to chemistry in bed. There is no correlation at all between these kinds of chemistry, not even an inverse relationship. Some of them are dating, but most of them are not romantically interested in their partner.

My theory is that if there was competitive sex, it might translate over to that.

A Better Question

@sewing

In an earlier post (https://dice.camp/@Shkshkshk/111633486456196055) I asked about waterproof fabrics I could use in my next ruana cloak. I got lots of wonderful feedback, but I just thought of a new problem: at some point, I might decide to use a cloak pin to fasten it. I don't know of any waterproof fabric that can heal from having a pin poked through the middle of it. Are there any at least water resistant fabrics that can handle being pinned?

Which waterproof fabric is best?

@sewing

I have discovered cloaks, and I am going nuts making them. I have bought so much fabric in the past few days alone. They are so warm and so easy to make! However, I would like to make one that suits the purpose for which they were invented, so that I may wear it outside in the rain. Are there any good waterproof fabrics that won't fuck up my fiancée's machine?

Asking here because I don't know what I am doing.

@sewing

@PP_BOY_ That is actually what they did in mideval Europe. If memory serves (not speaking from experience btw, talking directly from anus) it adds about a pound per foot, and if you wash it with soap/detergent you gotta start all over.

Plus, the wax seeps through the fabric (according to a larper I follow on youtube) and I wanted this to be two layers like a coat; waterproof on top, fuzzy on bottomI do not feel like disassembling my cloak whenever I want to properly clean it lol

Shkshkshk,
@Shkshkshk@dice.camp avatar

one little problem that I just realized is that since this is for a ruana cloak, I may want to use a cloak pin. This would ruin pretty much every waterproofed fabric I've looked at so far. Would boiled wool still keep its water resistance after sticking a pin the thickness of a nail through it?

Shkshkshk,
@Shkshkshk@dice.camp avatar

@Peppycito Since this is for a ruana cloak (which may result in me deciding to use a cloak pin) would the waterproofing be ruined if I stuck a pin through it

Shkshkshk,
@Shkshkshk@dice.camp avatar

fantastic. In case I want to use a cloak pin, would the waterproofing be completely ruined if I stuck a pin through it?

Shkshkshk,
@Shkshkshk@dice.camp avatar

Currently thinking of using boiled wool. It seems the best overall. Thanks for pointing me towards it!

What makes elves fun to play?

@dnd

Something I've been puzzling over with my stuff is about the classic elf. I don't really know what makes the Elves a compelling race to play. I'm thinking of changing them quite significantly for my campaign, but how far can I change them until they no longer hit the same buttons?

Shkshkshk, (edited ) to DnD
@Shkshkshk@dice.camp avatar

What dnd races are required?

@dnd

I'm making a new setting. The mistake I felt I made last time was trying to devise an orgin from whole cloth for each playable race, which wasted a TON of time and energy while also confusing my players. So, herein I wish to ask: What playable races would you miss, if you joined my table and noticed their absence?

Humans, dwarves, halflings, orcs, goblinoids, and elves will all stay, but I am not sure about all the others.

I actually have some opinions on the kobold. For one, they will be furry little doggos, not lizards. They will be little clever bois. Clever little smol beans.

Shkshkshk,
@Shkshkshk@dice.camp avatar

But why have them at all? They don't seem to do anything thematically that dwarves or orcs can't do better

Shkshkshk,
@Shkshkshk@dice.camp avatar

this is honestly just solid . But also bad phrasing on my part. My actual motivation for asking the internet was to see if there was going to be a surprisingly large chunk of people that would be turned off if [insert species here] wasn't included by default.

You'd be surprised how many people don't ever think about what they like, and because they don't do self-reflection they can't tell me what they like. It's really common in nerds for some reason.

It's really not as busted as it sounds, especially since this is likely a dragon with 1d8 hit points and a 15 in its highest stat

Personally, I think the best way to nerf a Dragon PC is strict timekeeping. Each year they get slightly bigger, each week their claws grow just enough to keep them from permanently silvering their claws, etc
