Various - MUZIK CLASSICS: TECHNO

When a music magazine with some actual taste curates a double-LP genre history lesson, good things happen.

BOARDS OF CANADA - Music Has The Right To Children

https://emcritic.blogspot.com/2014/04/boards-of-canada-music-has-right-to.html

A classic? Yes. Their best? Eh, I think they'd go on to do better, but it's certainly up there.

Far as I can tell, Geogaddi's the Marmite album within the BoC catalogue - some claim its their best, while others claim its their worst. And I'm, well, not on the positive side of things.

Got a bit of flak when I did my review of it. 😆

Then again, I tend to enjoy The Campfire Headphase the most, which I'm pretty sure doesn't typically rank terribly high among hardcore BoC fans.

Cannot deny, I get a little caustic in there, but I'm nothing if not honest in my feelings about what I'm writing about. 😶

FILTERIA - Daze Of Our Lives

https://emcritic.blogspot.com/2024/03/filteria-daze-of-our-lives.html

Someone had to kick-start return from the ashes, and this artist is often hailed as one of its earliest proponents. Maybe not so much this particular album tho'.

Cannot deny, seeing the blatantly trolling meme of posting four current stars and calling them Pioneers has elicited a few chuckles from reading the ensuing commenting shitstorm.

I suspect those who respond don't see it as obvious bait, assuming the younger generation are just that 'stupid' about music they purport to love. And BY G'AR, they'll get them some knowledge dropped on their heads now, oh boy oh boy!

Once, long ago, I couldn't help myself in being such a pretentious prick.😆

Thank God I realized folks just getting into this stuff will come around on their own terms, so let them be. Maybe provide a handy Guide should they like to know more.🤔

I always think back to one of my early experiences of that, back when my tastes mostly consisted of Trance-leaning Eurodance like Jam & Spoon and Dance 2 Trance.

Was digging about a music shop looking for more, and some dude inquired about my searching. When I told him, he handed me a disc to check out. Can't remember what it was, some sort of Garage House I think, but definitely not something I was ready to hear on my terms.

Got this instead:

Hecklers suck but throwing a fit about it and walking off? That sucks even more.

Not surprised to find out John Cougar Mellencamp is a big baby, tho.

(Should be noted that the hecklers were just shouting at him to play music instead of telling rambling stories 😅 ... Can't blame people who paid $100+ a ticket to hear music wanting to, you know, hear music and not the wandering good-ol'-days recollections of a boomer.)

EURYTHMICS - 1984 (For The Love Of Big Brother)

https://emcritic.blogspot.com/2014/03/eurythmics-1984-for-love-of-big-brother.html

This movie (and the year it was released) is now forty years old. That's older than than the gap between when the book was written and the year it was based upon! Are we more of a society now than what Orwell envisioned? I don't know about that, but our current music sure isn't as cold and heavy as heard here.

KHETZAL - Corolle

https://emcritic.blogspot.com/2024/03/khetzal-corolle.html

Would the rise of Neo have been as successful without this album? Oh, probably, but Khetzal's debut certainly gave it and Suntrip Records an early, significant boost in interest.

Well, it's President's Day in the US, which begs the question: is there any US president worth actually celebrating? Is there a single one that wasn't an absolute mass-murdering shitheel scumbag?

(Note: if you respond, you need to cite the historical record, not just vibes. And we are DEFINITELY counting all the bad shit they did, regardless of how much perceived good shit they did.)

(Second Note: if you name ANY of the slave-owning Presidents, you're blocked.)

Sykonee,
@Sykonee@ravenation.club avatar

@etherdiver

Do you mean while they were President, or over the course of their entire life?

Because if the former, I'd imagine William Harrison didn't have much time to do anything good or bad.

/not so much the latter tho'
//and it's not like 'not living long enough to accomplish anything' is something worth celebrating either
///could the current front-runners beat his record in their second terms? I'd bet on it!

Yeah, same kind of thing in the small town I grew up in. Funniest was when cops came to the house because of a noise complaint, and spotted our 'hot knives' on the stove (so ghetto, I know). I panicked hard, and gave up my stash to them, lest they find an excuse to needlessly rummage through the rest of the pad. 😅

Imagine saying something as dumbfuck ignorant as, "The 90s were nearly bereft of good [music]" and meaning it...

Yeah, this is in reference to another post but I don't want to get in trouble for calling someone "dumbfuck ignorant" so I'm posting it standalone.

Look, just because you stopped listening to new music in 1983 doesn't mean good music stopped being made then.

Sykonee,
@Sykonee@ravenation.club avatar

@etherdiver

The was practically a Cambrian Explosion of music diversification. How anyone can suggest it was "bereft of good [music]" is mind-boggling.

I honestly am curious what this person thinks of as solely 'good music'. Chamber waltzes?
