the 401(k) system is just... not designed for the way people are using it. i have so many abandoned accounts that i need to eventually "rollover". every firm has totally different options and rules for how the money accumulates and none of it makes any sense. and even making a fairly high income in no way would it ever amount to enough money to retire on, maybe serve as an emergency fund if i ended up old and sick for a year or something to get on my feet again. that's it.

@h_thoreson this is where it pays to get yourself a financial advisor to help manage all those things for you, like consolidating several jobs' worth of 401(k) accounts, usually into some sort of a Roth IRA. Once they're combined with a common return strategy, they really do start to add up.

@revengeday yeah, my suspicion is that bsky is where all the people who didn’t like what Twitter became but either thought the Fedi was “too hard” or still have some subculture desires in them that they still won’t admit that they have and let into the light.

Or more likely, the majority of them are still asleep and refuse to take the red pill.

TIL: It makes virtually no difference if the PS5 is in rest mode or "completely off". That's not because of great engineering that makes the rest mode extremely power efficient. Nope "off" just means technically nothing.

Power consumption in Rest Mode: 1.5 watts.
Power consumption "off": 1.3 watts.

That would take about 200 days to use an additional kWh.

Had a get-together with "the hateful 8" this weekend - former co-workers that got the shaft the same day I did - and some current employees ("the moles", we call them). It was a good time, and I found out some interesting information.

A couple of them have found new jobs and it turns out that Oracle and Fico employees aren't allowed to use AI for anything, not even low-level "automated intern" stuff.

There's a glimmer of hope and sanity in the corporate world, it seems. Let us hope it continues!

@revengeday So there used to be an Alexa skill called "party time" where you could just yell out, "Alexa! it's party time!" and it would start strobing the lights and changing colors.

It was fun for about 10 minutes and then it got really annoying.

There was also, "Alexa, sexy time!" where it would change all the colors to deep pinks and reds.

I've set up a couple different color schemes to match movies. Sometimes it's fun to watch submarine movies in "Red Alert" lighting or "Deep Blue Sea". Adds to the ambience. :kekw:​
