It's a sketch spoofing Shark Tank where I approach the stage with some platters full of delicious burgers and I’m like "I love a good burger, but the beef industry is terrible for the environment and we should all be trying to live a more compassionate lifestyle, so I created an alternate solution to solve this problem!"

And then the sharks try my burgers and are like "This is delicious! What is this made from?!?"

And I’m like "Kittens. It's made from kittens!"

Testing out some prints for a patch on my vest with some fabric ink. Now I know which way I prefer to print things, I'll clean them up with fabric ink later and leave them to cure.

I wish I used the harder material over the soft stuff because it was hard to get any details. :kekw:

I have 5 of these. I don't know what to do with the spares. lol but it was fun.

The cortex implant logo in white fabric ink on black fabric.

@LevelUp These are really cool! I love how you've repurposed some fabric to make something new. And utilizing the :corteximplant: logo makes it very "hi tech, lo life". :samurai:

I really enjoy seeing all the creative stuff my chooms come up with!

SynAck,

@LevelUp Are you sure there's not actually a band called that? Makes logical sense that after all this time, somebody would have thought of that. :bec_grin: But even if they do, it would be a good conversation starter about all things cyberpunk!

Shout out to @SynAck.

Sometimes he sounds like an old wise sensei, and I really love this. This helped me many times already to get another view on a topic. Sometimes it helped to solve the issue entirely.

At times I want to sit with him on a bench in front of a lake and just talk to him for hours.

Sad that the Fediverse can only connect us via the internet but isn't able to reduce the physical distance between people we like or admire.

SynAck,
@SynAck@corteximplant.com avatar

@kaiserkiwi Thank you so much for the kind words! :cyberheart_green: I'm glad to know that all my random posts aren't just seen as so much crotchety old man mutterings (although I'm sure there's a fair amount of that also) and that all this life experience is helpful to somebody besides me. :kekw:

I too enjoy the different perspectives that I gain by interacting with y'all! There aren't too many days where I don't learn something new by just being here in this community, and I'd say that I've become a better person for being here. I've grown a lot also thanks to people here. I feel like I'm back in my uni days. :bec_grin:

And if all goes as planned, maybe we can score some "bench time" in September. :bec_wink:

I really wonder what society would look like if people weren't forced to do jobs they hate just in order to live.

The fact that a capitalist system makes money by denying people the basic necesssities of life and then lays the blame for not being able to live at the feet of the people that the system has screwed is despicable.

Capitalism profits the most on the misery that the capitalist system itself creates. The fact that "work" is seen as both an ideal state of being as well as an "incentive" to get the basic necessities of life is reprehensible. Forcing people to start work as young as possible and then work until they've been completely used up through decades of constant work like so many cogs is abhorrent.

And the capitalists who perpetuate this system have likely never been anything less than affluent their entire lives. The irony is that their accumulated wealth allows them to be more of a "freeloader" than any person without a job. They have transferred their "work" to their money and the only "work" they do is to say, "put this much here".

Capitalism is a lie. It is the ultimate ponzi scheme. It is a system of control by which the wealthy control the rest of us. Capitalism devalues humanity to the point of insignificance.

I hate it here.

SynAck,
@SynAck@corteximplant.com avatar

@cy Sure, and these are good suggestions! I've been trying to implement them over the last 9 months or so, tbh.

This post was a bit of an editorial to kind of get on my soapbox and shout from the streetcorner to maybe get others thinking along these same lines as well. It's a little bit of venting some anger that welled up from watching the latest episode of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. :kekw:

@kaiserkiwi privatization in the name of competition in a place where money makes the rules.

The American version of capitalism centers the self and pushes all other altruistic tendencies to the wayside. Everything and everyone has a dollar amount associated with it/them here.

It's maddening.

I really like this post. Over the past 17 (oof nearly 18) years I've pretty much seen every archetype that is mentioned here.

And also had the situation multiple times where the management loved the negatively framed types while the other devs were annoyed.

https://www.simplethread.com/the-10x-programmer-myth/

SynAck,
@SynAck@corteximplant.com avatar

@kaiserkiwi This post is pretty great and I'm in a similar boat as you are, having seen all these archetypes and management's reactions to them over the years of my career. I've also seen the effect that these people can have on a team, and I've had the pleasure of being on a team that fired someone like this because even though they were a "10X" developer, they were toxic to the team. And while it hurt to lose their output, watching the team recover from it and become a more cohesive team as a result was wonderful to see.

This idea fuels unnecessary comparison and competition between team members, allows corpos to reject people for not meeting impossibly high standards, and perpetuate false perceptions of "exclusivity" and "talent". It's just a wrong mentality across the board.

And since every job application I've seen in the last week uses this as a benchmark, I'm finding it difficult to find jobs I even want to apply for much less spend time interviewing with.

SynAck,
@SynAck@corteximplant.com avatar

@kaiserkiwi tbh, I'm hoping that this mentality will reset once the "AI" hype bubble pops because all of a sudden, they're going to need all those devs back that they fired and they won't be in a position of power anymore.

My current hopes are to get into management so that I can change the company's processes and hiring practices to be more human and not be based on this mythical fairly tale.

SynAck,
@SynAck@corteximplant.com avatar

@kaiserkiwi That's how I knew I was finally ready to make the jump out of directly technical work - I realized that I would rather build a team that could make something great, and who is better at software dev than I am, than to be the one writing the code. I have a lot more fun educating and mentoring teammates than actually writing code (at least for profit on a timetable).

For example, I'd really like to educate people on the realities of the mythical 10X developer and why it's a bad mindset. And then help junior devs learn how to be good, solid devs and not just code fountains because they'll burn out much faster. :bec_wink:

Wanted to get some low hanging fruit tickets done for Questlog. Well I also decided to create more robust testing and now I finished the first task after 3 minutes and fighting Pest for 27 minutes now.

Why in all seven hells is Game::factory()->count(5)->create(); not creating 5 games? It's always 2 or 3. Never 5. This is absolutely infuriating…

I just wanted to get my list shorter and don't break stuff while I do.

The fun part? Also creating all 5 games manually fails. Without any log or something like that…

@kaiserkiwi You're in good company, mate! This kind of thing happens to all of us at some point. While working on a search engine issue at my former job, I spent probably 2 hours on a bug like this, only to stumble upon the fact that I forgot to clear a secondary filter out of the gui tool that I was using to do test searches. :facepalm:

Glad you figured out your "filtering" issue! They can be really frustrating.

Hey, any of my choombas out there know where I might get my hands on a link to The Max Headroom Show that ran on Cinemax circa 1985 or so?

I never saw it because I grew up in a house where HBO was a gateway straight to hell, and of course that meant that "Skinemax" was out also. But I'd be interested to know if anybody has it archived somewhere so I could grab it.

There's not enough Max in either of the Max Headroom movies or series that I have.

the 401(k) system is just... not designed for the way people are using it. i have so many abandoned accounts that i need to eventually "rollover". every firm has totally different options and rules for how the money accumulates and none of it makes any sense. and even making a fairly high income in no way would it ever amount to enough money to retire on, maybe serve as an emergency fund if i ended up old and sick for a year or something to get on my feet again. that's it.

SynAck,
@SynAck@corteximplant.com avatar

@h_thoreson this is where it pays to get yourself a financial advisor to help manage all those things for you, like consolidating several jobs' worth of 401(k) accounts, usually into some sort of a Roth IRA. Once they're combined with a common return strategy, they really do start to add up.

Max Headroom knew the score even back in 1985...

"You see, I'm not one to beat about the large, black boots but the first requirement for any security guard is to be totally-totally-t-to-totally insecure. I mean, who else needs to dress like a riot control cop so that he can write down your name and tell you where to park your car?"
