@tchambers Those that are still there will gladly pay 10x that to stay. Even the so called resisters. They'll complain like it's death but they'll all get their credit cards out.

@TerrorBite@meow.social avatar

@mike @tchambers Those already on there (and not already paying) won't be affected, it sounds like it's only going to affect new users. The stated intent is to stop spambots by requiring a valid payment before you can tweet. Though I would not be surprised if they force some existing users to pay if they "exhibit bot-like behaviour" (i.e. if they say something critical about Overlord Elon).

I gave them complete freedom on this picture and they came up with this beautiful render of taur anthropy!
The artist is "Clawdore"

    Recent weeks have seen a sizable uptick in the number of phishing scams targeting U.S. Postal Service (USPS) customers. Here’s a look at an extensive SMS phishing operation that tries to steal personal and financial data by spoofing the USPS, as well as postal services in at least a dozen other countries.

    I like to show my work, and went pretty far down the rabbit hole with this one:

    @briankrebs I like that people are sending furry porn stickers to scammers on Telegram now.

    Also, that sticker shows up uncensored in your blog post.

    I want to buy one of these. This exact thing. It's an IKEA drawer unit designed to go on top of a desk. I got one in white a few years ago, now I can't find it on the IKEA site. I found this picture on Pinterest (ugh) but the link went to a different product. Do IKEA still sell these? What are they called? Where do I get one?

    I rarely get political, but every now and then I'll tune into world events to see what's up. And much like Superintendent Chalmers, my reaction today was: “Good lord, what is happening in there‽”

    Of course, speaking as an Australian, where our political parties vote out their leaders all the time, even when those leaders are currently serving as Prime Minister – this isn't exactly new, it's just rather unusual to see the US doing it.

    In other political news, the US senate did get its first black lesbian senator today though, so that's neat.

    @btaf45 @mspencer712 The whole point of Scrum is to use the retrospective to stop doing what doesn't work and start doing what does.

    At one point, when my team's workload changed to less-timeboxable work, we threw out the entire concept of sprints and just used kanban instead, and stayed like that for a year. We still did retrospectives on the old sprint cadence though.

    TerrorBite,
    @TerrorBite@meow.social avatar

    @btaf45 in my case, we as a team could have done that, because we didn't have management dictating how we did anything. It was our choice to do what worked for us, and it was a valuable tool for dealing with whatever got thrown at us.

    Now I'm working in a different place that dictates Agile and Scrum to be done Their Way, on top of a project that's largely waterfall-like to begin with, and I'm starting to see why people say it doesn't work.

    It works, BUT, only when you're using it as the right tool for the right job and not when management decide to misapply it as a hot new planning methodology.

    TerrorBite,
    @TerrorBite@meow.social avatar

    @nous That's a good way of putting it!

    @btaf45 tagging @programming so that this federates properly from Mastodon to Lemmy

    TerrorBite,
    @TerrorBite@meow.social avatar

    @verdare @lysdexic they are, but you have to be an enterprise customer.

    https://ubuntu.com/blog/real-time-ubuntu-is-now-generally-available

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/iot/iot-enterprise/soft-real-time/soft-real-time

    RTOS are not going to become consumer operating systems, because there's too much value in selling it as a capability to enterprise customers (who are largely the consumers who REQUIRE a RTOS, rather than it merely being a convenience).

    @anthropy Tell me more about this

    TerrorBite,
    @TerrorBite@meow.social avatar

    @anthropy I should play around with it! I'm already using Grocy at home for my kitchen, but that's geared much more towards food products and has only basic support for equipment. I like the feature of being able to attach entities to a project, with notes.

    TerrorBite,
    @TerrorBite@meow.social avatar

    @Andy @BeanCounter Given how many of these start with "Lemmy" you could simplify this to:

    https://(lemmy\.(?:run|(?:fmhy\.)?ml|dbzer0\.com|world|kde\.social|ca)|lemmygrad\.ml|lemdro\.id|beehaw\.org|sh\.itjust\.works|(?:sopuli|mander)\.xyz|zerobytes\.monster)/c/(.*)

    Or just assume that anything matching https://(lemmy\.[^/]+)/c/(.*) is a Lemmy server, which will probably be correct.

    Edit: some kind of interaction between Mastodon and Lemmy has doubled all my backslashes. That is not intentional.

    @mlevison @GossiTheDog Australia decommissioned 2G in 2017, with the last network shutting off 2G in June 2018 after their deadline was extended. The 2G frequencies were then taken over by 4G and digital TV. So over here there's absolutely zero reason to have 2G enabled on any device, I don't even think our SIM cards would support 2G these days.
