    @drandrewv2 @actuallyautistic I refer to myself as on the autistic spectrum, because I believe it challenges people's preconceptions about what autism is and makes them reevaluate it.

    Apparently there's people who get upset if you can find Amiibo-unlocked content by playing the game normally, saying that it devalues their amiibo and that they should be exclusive, and it's been a bit since I heard such a privileged take

    TerrorBite,
    @TerrorBite@meow.social avatar

    @roxy wait until they find out you can emulate amiibos

    I am of the opinion that regex for email address is a bad idea. The only two things that you need to check an email address are:

    Does the address contain an @ symbol?
    Is there a dot to the right of the @ symbol?

    Then just try to deliver to it, and let the MTA do the rest.

    Email addresses can be complicated, and there's plenty of valid addresses that can be excluded by attempts at regex validation.

    @Zikeji It's possible for TLDs to have A records, and for a while there were a few that did. But ICANN forbids top level A records, and I wouldn't be surprised if they forbid top level MX records as well.

    Anyway, you would literally enter the address as "email@com." including the trailing dot, which represents the DNS root that contains all the TLDs. You can also think of the trailing dot as an indicator of a FQDN (instead of a hostname within your local search domain).

    @words_number @Sibbo that was one hell of an opening sentence to misread.

    In case you missed it, all links on Mastodon count as 23 characters towards your limit, no matter how many characters the link really is.

    So, you don't need to use link shorteners on Mastodon as they won't actually affect the link's length.

    Mastodon does this because it's better for everyone's privacy to avoid link shortener services, it means people can see what they're clicking on, and the link won't stop working if the shortener service shuts down.

    More info at:

    ➡️ https://fedi.tips/you-dont-need-link-shorteners-on-mastodon/

    TerrorBite,
    @TerrorBite@meow.social avatar

    @feditips There is one use-case for a URL-shortener-like service, and that's https://jort.link (read more there)

    Because of the distributed nature of the Fediverse, whenever someone posts a link, every instance that follows that user will hit the URL to generate a preview, causing a mini-DDoS or "mastodon stampede". Jort.link (by @unascribed) is designed to cache the preview, reducing impact on small and self-hosted sites, while transparently redirecting actual users.

    Hey, everyone, please keep a heads-up for this: there's some weird spam bot thing going around that's mentioning Calckey. I don't know what these accounts are or what their goal is, and I (/the Calckey project) am not affiliated with them. :boost_requested:

    TerrorBite,
    @TerrorBite@meow.social avatar

    @kainoa It looks like the original (legit) post is https://layer8.space/@FlyingBlindUS/110628003780140261 and they're asking because of accessibility requirements for the blind.

    I suspect the bots are simply copying random posts from the Fediverse, using GPT AI to append a plausible sentence or two for uniqueness, and posting in order to create a veneer of legitimacy as cover for their actual spam. Seen Reddit spambots do similar things to build karma

    TerrorBite,
    @TerrorBite@meow.social avatar

    @Rairii @kainoa original post (that the bots stole) is by a blind guy, I suspect he's doing the best he can when it comes to spelling.
