My son planted 10 plants for me while I was working today. He's the bestest. I've gone out to love on them a few times already today.
I've learned in the last several years that he enjoys helping me with these things. It relaxes him too. I raised a good guy. (He actually convinced me to shop for them yesterday and drove me over, in my work clothes, so we had time to shop, lol)

I'm not even upset that my rock theme for the bed was thwarted.
I planned to get Jethro Tull tickseed, Super Star Tickseed, Lil Bang Tickseed, and burning heart false sunflowers but Jethro had STD (all had powder mildew) so I went with a blanket flower.
This is what I was busy buying when my friend texted to give me the fantastic news of the day.
Anyway, this should now backfill all my lost dianthus.

All the sweet William dianthus got some kind of disease. I kept trying to treat but nothing seemed to be working, black spots. Most lasted the season but looked terrible. The pink dianthus was fine the entire season last year. Neither variety came back this spring.

One butterfly bush hasn't come back yet at all, it was fine at the end of last season.

In the ground.
We have clay soil, it makes it very hard. I try to backfill with good soil. I read last night to not backfill butterfly bushes with good soil when you are dealing with clay but I can't see how to possibly even plant otherwise because it is solid clay so when you dig it's just chunk clay.
