Loves hiking, coffee, reading, and Amsterdam, though not necessarily in that order. Takes lots of phone pictures of whatever catches the eye.

Today is dodenherdenking (remembrance of the dead) in the Netherlands. When I was a child it was for Dutch victims who died in the Second World War. Nowadays it’s commemorating all casualties of military conflicts and peacekeeping missions since the beginning of WWII.
I haven't lived in the Netherlands for a long time but this is something I do every year on the 4th of May: remembering victims of war everywhere. And today I think of Gaza in particular.
If you drive an electric car and you come flying around a blind corner into a side street, don't be surprised if you nearly knock down people trying to cross
Experiencing the sharp end of island life this week. I've hurt my eye. Yesterday I attended A&E (small cottage hospital staffed by excellent GPs but not well equipped) because the local optician can't get to the island as the ferries were off.
Diagnosed with corneal abrasion.
Was told if it doesn't improve to make emergency appt with opticians ASAP. Phone opticians today, no chance of appt this week due to ferries and only having one emergency slot each day.
@Snoweider I really hope you find a way to sort this. We thought about moving to one of the islands but this is the main reason we're staying on the mainland.
@Dave2022 yesterday we came across someone who had made a hole in the ice and was standing in it; not exactly swimming and I'd be worried about climbing out again, especially since she was by herself #brrrrrr
Happy birthday to everyone who starts each year with an inbox full of automated birthday wishes from websites you signed up to and entered a fake date of birth.
Just counted the books in the 'to read' pile and not counting the ones in the living room there are 35. And of course I asked for book tokens for Christmas!
Weather warning for snow and ice cancelled so it'll be all slushy melting snow. Sloshing into town shortly for coffee. The other person in the house wants to sit outside. It'll be interesting 🤔
You know when you're back in England when your train is cancelled 15 minutes before departure and the next direct one is 1.5 hrs later. No announcement either, just a change of destination on the sign. I wonder what tourists arriving in Manchester airport think of that .
Made it to Oxford Road where we sit and wait. Just been told there's damage at Preston. Hopefully we get to Oxenholme before they lock the gates and we'll have to climb over
