@chestas First time I see the Colle in a live context. Ding is being very creative with openings this match. Let's see what happens.

I'm going with "Kilo" from Ghostface

@attentive The Imperial system has its own anthem:

@attentive And we'll always have this:

There's also the curious case of the Beatles' "Lovely Rita", which is a kind of red herring, because "meter maid" has nothing to do with the metric system, unfortunately.

Policy change in Ubuntu 23.04 means you can't run "pip install" as before, so here are 3 workarounds https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2023/04/pip-install-error-externally-managed-environment-fix

acousticmirror,
@acousticmirror@post.lurk.org avatar

@omgubuntu Well, at least this voids the 'sudo pip install' trip wire. That has hosed more than a few Python installations out there. Hell yeah virtual environments!

I’ve hit “cancel” on things I was about to post, oh, easily six or eight times this week, and in so doing have saved you and me both a great deal of aggravation. A lesson, really.

acousticmirror,
@acousticmirror@post.lurk.org avatar

@adamgreenfield I do something similar with boosts. If I see something I like, I bookmark it first. Three or five hours later (or next morning), I decide whether it really merits a boost or not. So bookmarks become a kind of "buffer". I think I've reduced the amount of garbage I spew by at least 80%.

A little bit of lockdown by yours truly.

This is one of many times during lockdown I waited for the Dawn Chorus, mostly to listen, but also to record the birds taking up their daily sonic niche. Due to circumstances, this was done in an urban context, so we get some blackbirds and little more. There were a couple of storks in the area, but they would rarely vocalize, and would come out a bit later in the morning.

Lately, I've been going through my archives and listening back to them.

This one in particular ended up part of a project back then.

The preposition "based" can just be removed from most sentences I think.

"The film will be shown in a Paris-based cinema" → Paris cinema

"Calling all Unity-based game makers" → Unity game makers

"Alice is a New York based poet" → New York poet

"Collection of software-based art" → software art

@despens This is based.

Holy cow, I've been using since 2008, but never even knew this existed: "Ubunchu!", a Japanese series featuring Ubuntu. Subtitled "Ubuntu Romantic School Comedy". 👀

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ubunchu!

A page from the first chapter of the "Ubunchu!" maga series. Right-to-left and top-to-bottom: Two characters speaking in front of a computer terminal: "You don't use a desktop, do you. Pffft, enjoy your childish text based computer yourself" "Huh?!"; One of three characters has transformed into a witch, and she's casting a spell. Around her appear terms like "bin", and "local", and she says "Exploring labyrinths of directories, battling monstrous hardware devices... An engineer must acquire the sorcery of the command line. Only a true wizard can triumph! It is truly a heroic ordeal!" Another character replies "You've lost me..."; "Installing Linux... Is not that easy!"; "But what do you know, you've wasted your time on windows. And now it's too late for you."; Sound effect: "Drumbeat Jingle!" "Good, the installation has completed!" "Wait, what! Already?!"; "W--what sorcery did you use?!" "Um... The magic of click forward, click forward, and click finish?"
Part of a page of the "Ubunchu!" manga series. A girl says "Go ahead, cat fight for that 1% user share. Be careful not to make the boys too horny."
A page from the "Ubunchu!" manga series. "By scraping BL terminology sites and forums I created a comprehensive BL dictionary for Anthy!"; "The modified Anthy + BL Bride Dictionary!"; "I can write. With this I can write!"; "Ubunchu's power to revolutionize the BL side of Japanese language input!"
