UI design take: Software synthesizers are often still in the Skeuomorphism UI paradigm.

And you know what? The ones that use it are most of the time much, much more readable than those with modern minimal flat design.

@Nifflas I feel like your screenshots tell a different story though. The interface of Algorithm by Reason Studio is mainly flat (all the widgets in the middle are flat, only the top and bottom are skeuomorph) whereas TAL-Elek7ro is full skeuomorph and feels less readable to me.

Does anybody have a connection at Netlify?

Long story short, they won’t work with you if you’re #transgender, and they’re holding my domain hostage. They refuse to speak to anyone except [deadname] via an email that no longer exists.

After explaining my transition to the support rep, and offfering to give them an updated ID, they’ve just stopped responding to my emails. I need to get ahold of a human who isn’t an asshole.

I am so fucking tired of the trans tax.

@oracle La Ligne Rouge de Terrence Malick, qui raconte la bataille de Guadalcanal en 1942. Je ne l'ai pas revu depuis sa sortie (1998) mais j'ai le souvenir d'un film magnifique et horrible à la fois.

@b0rk my new company uses GitHub enterprise, but previously I've worked at companies using Azure DevOps, JetBrains Space, BitBucket, and even GitBlit (I had to lookup the name because I had forgotten!).

Parmi ceux qui ne mangent pas à leur faim, COMBIEN ont un abonnement VOD ? Très peu, pour ne pas dire aucun. Ces clichés éculés du style "Ecrans plats" payés avec l'allocation de rentrée n'existent que dans les fantasmes psychotiques dogmatiques de ceux qui ne savent absolument pas ce qu'est la pauvreté et qui sont généralement ceux qui la font subir aux autres en s'accaparant la plus grosse part des richesses produites.

Si je vous demande de citer une bonne scène de sexe dans un jeu vidéo, est-ce que vous êtes capables de me répondre ? Dans l'imaginaire de beaucoup, le cul dans les JV serait forcément ridicule, mal écrit, sexiste ... Peut-on dépasser cette gène, et surtout la rendre politique ?

@Lucieronfaut moi j'ai adoré (j'ai tout écouté sauf le dernier) et je suis prêt à financer la saison 2 ! Je me doute que l'argent n'est pas votre objectif principal mais c'est bien aussi. On ressent bien qu'il y a beaucoup de travail derrière chaque épisode.

Audio tip: Hard panning music left and right is extremely uncomfortable to the ears, especially with headphones.

If a jukebox exists in a physical space in a game, never let it pan fully right or left.

@Nifflas old stereo records from the 60's are really hard to listen to for this reason. Some instruments are 100% on the right, others 100% on the left.

there's something weird about git branches that "a branch is just a reference to a commit" does not capture and I've been struggling with it for weeks

like in this diagram I think most people would say that there are 3 branches (corresponding to the 3 commits at the top of the diagram), though technically in git you could have 0, 3, or 100 branches here, and it's not labelled so you have no way to know how many branches there are

(please don't try to explain branches to me ty)

@b0rk one time, I had to explain to a colleague, who was angry he couldn't easily move a tag, that a moving tag is just a branch. So I guess a branch is just a moving tag.

My issue with the phrase: "trust must be earned" is that it completely externalizes the burden of trust onto the second party. Trust can be earned, trust can be given. But fundamentally also "trust" is experienced differently by the party giving it, and the party receiving it.

I can choose to trust someone, despite not being completely sure whether I can trust them. Similarly I can feel like I can trust someone entirely, and still not to extend trust to them.

@yosh If you need to be 100% sure before trusting, it's not trust. Trust is when you're not sure but you're giving the benefit of the doubt to the other party.

I had a manager who always said "trust does not exclude control", which is bullshit. He was controlling our work because he did not trust us.

Est-ce que quelqu'un sait pourquoi tous les trains sont en non-réservable pour un jour donné sur l'appli et le site de sncf connect lorsque je veux réserver pour un profil titulaire d'une carte avantage adulte (sans être forcément connectée) MAIS qu'ils passent en tout à fait réservable si je switche sur un profil sans réduction ?

@oracle J'ai le même problème. J'ai une carte avantage et les trains sont réservables en aller-simple mais pas en retour. Et le tarif de l'aller est moins cher en aller-retour, mais vu que je ne peux pas prendre de retour ça me fait une belle jambe qui ne m’amènera pas à destination.
Au final on a du renoncer au train pour Noël, trop cher. Pourtant l'année dernière on avait réussi sans trop de soucis.

I wish (Android?) Phones had a way to just disable vibration for an app, without blocking its notifications entirely.

The @NPR app vibrates in an obnoxious pattern for like three full seconds whenever there's breaking news, but I can't find any way to disable only the vibration without completely disabling all breaking news notifications.

@collinsworth I don't know which version of Android you are using, but I can disable vibrations for each notification type of an application.

@collinsworth yes, I can do this but only at the notification type level. On the "App Info" page tap "Notifications", then tap a notification type. Here you will find a lot of settings, including a vibration toggle.

I have included a screenshot of the settings for the "Boost" notification type for Tusky.
