Well, with no lottery wins over the weekend, I guess it’s back to the bump and grind this morning.

Husband: “Wait, this is the first Father’s Day you couldn’t call your dad.”
Me: “Yeah well I contemplated calling the farm we used to live on and asking them to walk to the top paddock where my brother threw his ashes so I could shout nice things at him but I don’t know their number…”

Side effects of an abusive upbringing, I guess.

One thing I’ll miss about inner suburb living in when I move to is the partially bluestone cobbled laneways in rain.

Husband's Thermomix has arrived today. Can confirm it's slightly shocking when it sends out a 360º LIDAR pulse on initial setup to identify all competing products in the vicinity. Also it has assimilation tubules to lock itself to the bench top? That bit was disturbing.

We are hopeful that we might get to take possession of the house tomorrow. ANZ have done the final payment and as long as the builder sees it by 11am tomorrow they'll do handover in the afternoon. Fingers crossed.

Crazy: builder told us today that they no longer allow people to customise power & lighting on their plans. We must have added at least 15 double power-points around the house for the build after so many years of living in places with extension cords running everywhere due to poorly placed & insufficient power-points.

Husband: “I wish they’d do a Bogan voice for Siri.”
Me: “Oi ct you missed the fken turn!”
Husband: “I take it back.”

Can any #IT folk (particularly in Australia, for local prices) recommend a reasonably priced network accessible #KVM? Not after 4K support -- literally 1920x1080 is more than sufficient for my needs, but ideally should support at least 4 connections. #AskFedi

Got our heating activated today. Since it was meant to be connected yesterday, it was a rather chilly night last night given we didn’t bring heaters with us. Chilly night & morning aside, loving the Ballarat weather already — colder than Melbourne works well for me.

The shits who own the block beside us and are yet to build are refusing to communicate with us over shared fence costs. We've done the formal contact requests twice, and now the government body that tries to force contact is also onto their second contact attempt. Looks like we'll be taking the shits to court.

It's always amazing when someone reveals something that's actually horrifying treatment of a child as if it were something normal. (Been there, done that myself a few times.)

Someone noting: "Of course, [as a kid] I was banned from talking in the car because I'd talk too much."

Hey, that's a sign of shitty parents, don't wear it as some criticism of you.

Currently doing research to find a decent dolly with good wheels and a carrying capacity of 150 KG, and deciding how we can attach a decent platform to it for the move of our . Going to be a bit of a pain to get it into the new house.

Turns out the best dolly options seem to be for moving pianos ... just need to find a decent platform to sit on top of one now.

First official pre-handover inspection with the builder tomorrow. This was after several quite sharp conversations with them that no, it's not OK to start just talking about maybe putting it off a few weeks because they have a number of houses close to handover and maybe we could wait a while.

I'll be very glad when this is over; and the new-house bit will only be part of that reason.

Few things are more rage-inducing to discover after spending half an hour debugging weird DHCP & DNS issues to realise the network cable's clip has broken and it's wobbling in the switch.

Pestering me weekly to respond to your stupid survey will not garner you the result you want.

Headline: "Young family snaps up $3.8M home in Brunswick!"

Me: "OK honey, let's play the guessing game re: whether this 'young couple' will turn out to both be earning $500Kp/a or how the bank of mum & dad with a 17-house investment portfolio are bank-rolling them."

I love* the integration of OneDrive and Office Apps.

For instance, in PowerPoint, I love* how when I go to save a deck I've just created, I get the of this workflow in order to pick the folder I want to write it to:

  1. First get prompted just to throw it in my OneDrive. Click the little "More options..." link down the bottom.

  2. Go to an erstwhile full "Save As" dialog that lets me choose between OneDrive, SharePoint, This PC, etc. Click the "This PC" link.

  3. Get the offer to just write it in my Documents folder, or maybe I'd like to create a New Folder, or maybe I'd like to pick one of 5 or 6 folders under Documents that I've never saved a document into. Click the little "More options..." link.

  4. Finally get presented with a true Explorer Save-As dialog where I can navigate my damn file structure and choose the directory I want to write the file to.

Seriously, if you want a lesson in how not to do file-access UX, look no further than MS Office fully integrated with OneDrive.
