Pharma: we raised the cost of this drug 700% to help with R&D

Also Pharma: we have laid off the entire R&D department and gave the surplus to our shareholders

@ki I don't even know why we have a QA server anymore. This is such a mood.

Yeah, so I've managed to waste most of the two hours since I got off of work. Time to something. Hudson Hawk (1991) anyone? It's directed by Michael Lehmann, stars Bruce Willis with a massively big cast.

@batichi@masto.batichi.net avatar

@aka_quant_noir that movie is so great. Have a good time!

my cis female nesting partner has never once had her estradiol levels tested and she's been to doctors about chronic health issues for almost a decade.

imagine being a trans woman and never having your hormone levels checked.

honestly, this is one of the ways that cisnormativity likely hurts cis people; she should have had her levels checked years ago!

batichi,
@batichi@masto.batichi.net avatar

@terraboops this is really frustrating considering that many folks have PCOS without knowing it, and that can mean she needs naturally higher levels of testosterone in her system than most.

Really wish I could watch a new show without the internet algos thinking I'm suddenly OBSESSED with it.

I'm glad fandom folks are having fun but I just want time to injest art in peace.

batichi,
@batichi@masto.batichi.net avatar

No I don't need the massive lore explanation, the cosplay kinning tik toks, why x, y & z are bad people for making a show.

Sometimes it's just a show and that's all it needs to be 😩

My library lets you borrow small kitchen gadgets like waffle irons and ice cream makers.

Apparently they want to expand into garden & hardware tools.

I think this is the best idea ever.

Apparently this initiative started over COVID so parents could entertain children and give them little projects to do at home, with little supervision. I think that's so cool.

Especially since they're common 'novelty' items that wind up in yard sales.

Meal prepped breakfast for the week! Lemon raspberry baked oatmeal. Gonna try to see if I can experiment for a key lime version.

Odds are it might start off more dessert like before I can change things to be a little more balanced. Condensed milk & a Greek yogurt ratio might work 🤔

batichi,
@batichi@masto.batichi.net avatar

Might also want to take 1/3 of the oatmeal and mix it with graham cracker crumbs and melted butter for a nice crust ohohohoho

Love it when an online phone guide has all the icon images broken and no alt text so you can't figure out what buttons to press to do anything.

Or we could be in another recession. Due to plague and war - but sure, we'll play with the magic marketing word of the day I guess.

today for i am gonna write about wigs

i don't have much to say on them as i ended up not buying/wearing as many as i once imagined i might, but it was a stage in my journey so i may as well discuss it.

these are just my anecdotal thoughts and feelings on my experiences with wigs; your feelings about wigs are not indicative of your transness. we are different people and have different thoughts and that is good.

only you know if you are trans!

batichi,
@batichi@masto.batichi.net avatar

@terraboops definitely make sure you don't have any skin sensitivities. You probably already know, but I've had a few folks not realize that cheaper wigs can be more aggravating to the scalp, being made of plastic fibres. But even the netting can be really uncomfortable, so definitely see if you can rent a few to test them out.

Being in the education sector is always wild. There is such a constant demand to make teaching less and less social, and more and more abstract from the use cases of theory.
People learn from other people far better than books and walk-throughs. No matter how well you write instructions, there is always going to be another way to interpret the language you put forth, and you need a person with expertise who can break it down for someone else in a way their brain can understand it.

batichi,
@batichi@masto.batichi.net avatar

But practical use cases can teach far better and stronger than any book really can. People hate math because it's so abstracted from use cases that it's hard to see it's value from paper to production - especially as a child.
You want someone to learn basic math? Teach them how to modify a recipe.
You want someone to learn trigonometry and algebra? Teach them woodworking.
Grammar? Poetry and musical lyrics.
3d visualization? Sewing. Understanding interior vs exterior planes.

One of my favourite classes I ever took was an optional and specialized programming class that focused around game creation, robotics and breadboards. To see humans, software and hardware interact.
It took me away from thinking of them as separate entities and as one united force.

And it made me really evaluate why I struggled in certain classes vs others - even as a highschool student.
